Super Bowl 2011 Half Time Show: Who Is Playing? Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash

Black Eyed Pea Super Bowl

The Black Eyed Peas are set to 'get it started' in Dallas -- well, get the second half started, at least.

After a few years of classic rock acts, including Bruce Springsteen and Aerosmith, the mega pop act will star in the 2011 Super Bowl half time show. And they're promising big things.

We're known for doing outlandish things and we're going to make this a big spectacle," Will.i.am said of their big plans. They'll be playing a medley of their most famous songs.

"This isn't about winning people over," the singer continued. But even if people don't like us, I want them to say 'That s**t was crazy! Them muthaf**kas was nuts! That was the best 13-minutes I've seen! And that guy Will.i.am is awesome as s**t. Damn!'"

Joining them on stage are scheduled "surprise" guests Usher and Slash.

Besides Fergie's awful voice the BEP's performance was good. And that OMG song with Usher was good.

You must have been watching with closed-captions on and the sound down.

"Will.i.am?" Do his friends call him "Bill.e?"

Lame.

actually, I thought the BEPs were perfect for the Super Bowl. all flash and none of that pesky 'live music' to complicate things at the sound board. next year indiana? they should just play mellancamp's 1980s 'scarecrow' album and be done with it.

You had to see it to believe just how bad it was.

I wonder if the Peas have any idea that they should be embarrassed?

The weakest SB half-time show I've ever seen. I mean The Who were weak, too, but at least they still are THE F'ING WHO.

30 years from now The Who will still be getting remembered & played. The BEP, not so much. Can't sing, can't dance, can't even move in unison. But if I was wearing goofy outfits like that, I might be shamed into mediocrity, too.

Also, the Who actually played their instruments and sang, instead of a completely lip-synched performance as I suspect last nite's BEP/Slash/Usher show was.

I'm thinking it wasn't lip synched. I mean, if you had pre-recorded it in the studio, wouldn't you at least use a version where you sang in tune?

Janet's 'wardrobe malfunction' was still better than this mess.

Great "Light Show" but the sound was awful..thought that Usher literally flying in was going to save the show, but nope..he just danced around and said "oh my god" alot. Slash was cool though...the rest...not so much.
01:38 PM on 02/07/2011
Usher (he should be demoted to Ticket-Taker) didn't even bother lip-syncing most of the time. Weak.

Terrible...

One other thing. I think the BEP's voices are so electronically altered in their studio music that it just didn't come across well live. That's just one of the reasons Fergie sounded so bad.
12:49 PM on 02/07/2011
I thought she sounded bad 'cause she can't sing.

Aside from the dance sequences with the lights being cool and the sound quality being so poor, something kept bothering me about the performance as a whole. I couldn't put my finger on what it was until Usher showed up. Stage presence. Black Eyed Peas got eaten up on the stage. They didn't even look comfortable. Then Usher showed up (think Prince or Bruce Springsteen live in the 80's). The energy level went from low to off-the-charts. I didn't even care for the song very much, but that guy has amazing stage presence and energy that just radiates.
