The New York Knicks are apparently not giving up in their efforts to acquire Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony this season.
Anthony, a Brooklyn native, has made no secret that he would like to play in New York. Knicks management, meanwhile, has expressed interest in the all-star forward, but has not yet been able to put together an attractive package of assets to offer the Nuggets.
Recent speculation has suggested that the Knicks may be willing to wait until the off-season to sign Anthony as a free agent.
However, ESPN's Chris Broussard reported on Sunday that the Knicks are exploring options to acquire Anthony this season. An unnamed source told Broussard that Knicks owner James Dolan "is really pressuring [general manager Donnie] Walsh to get Melo."
To that end, the team is talking with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a deal that would send Minnesota's Corey Brewer and the Knicks' Wilson Chandler to Denver along with a first round pick. The Timberwolves would receive Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph as part of the deal, although the team is reportedly not satisfied with the terms of the deal as they stand now.
Walsh confirmed to Northjersey.com on Monday that talks were taking place, but said nothing is iminent.
