'Cowboys & Aliens' Trailer: Director Talks Naked Olivia Wilde, Adventuring Daniel Craig (VIDEO)

Wilde

Yeehaw -- or however you say it in alien.

'Iron Man' director Jon Favreau debuted the wild trailer for his new wild west/sci-fi mashup, 'Cowboys & Aliens,' during the Super Bowl on Sunday, giving America a taste of the insanity he has in store.

Starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde, the film focuses on a wild frontier in the 1800's that just so happens to get invaded by aliens. Of course, Craig, James Bond himself, doesn't take too well to the idea of abduction, leading the charge back -- even if all the humans have are a bunch of measly pistols.

While Craig is kicking tail, co-star Wilde is looking up at the invading ships -- which may or may not have compelled her take off her clothing.

About the nude shot, Favreau didn't want to say much, but did tell Entertainment Weekly, "That's a moment in the film that may seem out of context, but actually makes a lot of sense in the course of the movie."

As for the genre mashup, Favreau said, "There's a level of fun, but that doesn't mean we have to wink. The characters aren't having fun, but the audience is. We wanted to maintain the integrity of both genres, and focus on a specific aspect of the alien genre which mostly revolves around the films of the '80s that I grew up with."

Got to atleast give him credit for not remaking an old movie or a foreign one, or adapting a book, graphic novel or comic book.

Hold off on that credit. The first sentence of the article on Wikipedia: "Cowboys & Aliens is an upcoming 2011 science fiction Western film based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg."

Judging from this short trailer, it looks like Olivia Wilde's character is just going to be a revamp of Summer Glow's awesome acting as a Terminator in the Sarah Connor Chronicle. There's even her characteristic head-tilt at 0.20

I've never seen a woman with smaller breasts who is more itchin to show em off than Olivia. When is she not topless? I'm not complaining; just asking

Ooh la la. What a crazy and entertaining idea for a movie.

Damn, that looks really stupid. A new title would help a lot I think.

While I think she is a beautiful woman, it seems to me that she's trying to hard. I wonder if she isn't confident in her abilities? She is getting more attention for her various stages of undress than her acting skills.

Is this the same Daniel Craig who is going to star in the English language remake of "The Men Who Hate Women" films? Is he going to bring along Olivia Wilde as Lisbeth, and will the right-wing women-hating murderers be replaced by sex-starved space aliens, who incidentally kidnap and torture women? That adaptation in the plot would make it more palatable for the American market.

Coming up next in the Jon Favreau historical space-alien trilogy:

"Rebels & Aliens, a Civil War Epic!"

"Patriots & Aliens, how the war was really won!"

If there is enough demand (or should I say tolerance) for this sort of film, Mr. Favreou will be congratulated for opening up a whole new genre to Hollywood studios.

Just my opinion, but if the film is kept short, it might be funny, in a campy sort of way.

How in the world did they get Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, and Olivia Wilde to sign up for this flick? There comes a time in an actor's career when they are big enough to pick and choose their roles, and yet, here we are with three big shots in an instant Grade-B flick.

They're presiding over, with many other actors in many other movies, the downfall of the baby-boomer generation. As boomers become more and more enfeebled they will need more and more ridiculous reminders of their faux greatness. Add to this the lamesters that are now so in vogue and it will likely, unfortunately, sell to the detriment of us all.

The target demographic for comedy action flicks is usually the tweens and teens, I think. If studios had to rely on the disposable income of the social security set in order to pay for these surrealistic comedies, they would never get made.
