NEW YORK — Facebook is moving its headquarters out of Palo Alto, Calif., to the former campus of Sun Microsystems in Menlo Park.

The online social network, which has about 2,000 employees worldwide and 1,400 in Palo Alto, said Tuesday it will begin the move in June or July. But the company will continue to occupy its Palo Alto offices through 2011 and possibly 2012.

The former Sun Microsystems campus occupies 57 acres and contains nine buildings. Facebook says it also bought an adjacent 22-acre piece of land for future expansion.

Facebook, which has well over 500 million users, recently celebrated its seventh birthday.

What they didn't move to the business "paradise" of Alabama or Texas?

it is ridiculous how small some "cities" are in the USA. Nevertheless, I can ride my bike (foldup) between the 2 facebook sites in around 1/2 an hour.

most districts in Shanghai and all districts in Beijing are larger than most San Mateo County "cities", TIME TO MERGE AND SAVE COSTS

Geez...they move six miles..whoopie!!

Moving from one pricey city to another pricey city. Would be news if they moved to EAST Palo Alto.

EPA is kinda cool. Took a drive around there last time I was out there. There's a great salvage demolition yard there that does a lot of charity work.

If nothing else, EPA has an IKEA. It used to be a really rough area.

They should relocate to Michigan. It's time to reinvigorate the middle west and the Ann Arbor area has lots of computer talent living there. Housing costs are a lot lower and just the amount saved on building rent could be used for business expansion or to boost the salaries of employees. Besides, Michigan has 4 seasons instead of just the two (green & brown) that California has.

LOL, yea, we do kind of have perpetual spring and fall...instead of 100 degree muggy horror during summer and freeze-yr-butt-off winter. (I like winter in the midwest, to visit, but I wouldn't want to live in it.)

Well, we can drive to Tahoe for the snow. I lived in Dallas for a few years and I'll never leave California again nor live farther than an hour's drive from the ocean again.

Kind of misses the point that Facebook has outgrown the Palo Alto facility and will be hiring as well as moving.

Who cares, this would only be news if they moved out of California.
