STUPID CRIMINALS: Robert Michelson Calls 911 To Ask If Pot Plant Is Illegal (VIDEO)

We at HuffPost Comedy love us some stupid criminals, especially when said criminals call 911 on themselves. That's why we got such a kick out of this latest criminal misstep where 21-year-old Robert Michelson called 911 to ask how much trouble he could get into for his pot plant.

The Farmington, Conn. man's call is hysterical, beginning with the 911 dispatcher's reaction. When she asks for his location he says, "let's not get into that just yet." When she asks if the situation is life-threatening or if there is a crime in progress, Michelson casually replies,

"Possibly a crime in progress."

Since he called from his home phone, it didn't take long for narcotics officers to show up at his house to find paraphernalia and a small amount of pot.

WTNH News say Michelson told officers he made the call "because he wanted to make his mother angry," but that isn't even the best part of the story. They also say that after he was brought into the police station for processing, as he exited he "spun around and stuck both middle fingers up at the dispatchers."

"Presumably for doing such a good job," police said.

This is a weird story -- it makes me feel conflicted. It's funny that this guy got himself arrested so stupidly, but ... I mean ... he's now possibly going to PRISON as a result. Not so funny, there. If this guy were about to rob the house and called to double-check if it was okay, I'd think it was hilarious, but some slow dude who just had some plant in his house? Prison time for that? I'm sorry, but I can't laugh at that. It's tragic -- comically tragic, but tragic nonetheless.

Haha.

This reminds me of a guy I went to high school with. He got a huge settlement and blew through it with his druggie buddies. When the money ran out, he called Crimestoppers on himself so that he could get the reward and buy more drugs.

You'd be surprised just how often 911 gets calls from stoners reporting their stash being stolen.

The fact that he was arrested and thrown in jail when the cop who called 911 and admitted to stealing pot from suspects and consuming it got off scott free is a testament to the double standard that exists in this country.

Google "cop calls 911 for marijuana overdose" for the videos.

Their local congressman's office. Ask them about that whole freedom and pursuit of happiness thing while they are at it.

Hilarious. Maybe this is why it's called "dope".

But seriously, 911 is a victim of its own success. Everyone knows about it, but a lot of dopes think it's some sort of information hotline. And not just potheads. Remember when John McCain's brother called 911 several times to complain about a traffic jam?

Perhaps 911 needs to be re-branded or re-introduced to the public with the notice that it's to be used only for emergencies and not to request information. Maybe do what New York City did and have every state provide a 311 for government information. Like whether growing pot is illegal.

They still have their old phone numbers for non-emergency calls, but for some reason they're not very well publicized.

The kid is stupid but what is there to say about officers being sent to a private home to arrest someone for growning a pot plant in their home? Like didnt they have more serious things to do with their time. Alas, next time check Wikipedia, About.com, Ask.com or Answers.com before you call 911 kid.

I wonder if SWAT was called. I hope they didn't have to shot his dog.
