Food Better Than Sex: LA Chefs Weigh In

Foodgasm, oral gratification, gastrophoria. Call it what you want. The bottom line is that every now and again, you bite into something so delicious, so incredibly multisensory, it convinces you it's better than sex. White truffles? (Wolfgang Puck seems to think so.) Bacon? (Take it from an Iron Chef.) Grandma's chocolate cake? (Who knew!) I asked some top chefs and restaurateurs to describe which foods really hit the spot.

A perfectly ripe Hass avocado can yield a umami flavor that is strikingly similar to bacon, but only that variety.

The only time I heard this description was about the Black Pepper Crab in Singapore. You take a cab out past a forested park to a place by the ocean where they have about six or eight restaurants that specialize in this. It is absolutely great. The crab is cooked and sectioned then stir fried in black pepper and other spices. Served hot with glasses of cold Tiger beer. It tastes so good and the pepper burns your lips so you drink beer then you eat more crab and you drink more beer and eat more crab and you drink more beer and you just ride this rush of intensity. Lots of fun in a group.
