Facebook Hitman

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — A Chester County teenager faces 11 to 22 years in prison after agreeing to a plea agreement on charges he used Facebook to try to hire a hit man to kill a woman who had accused him of rape.

Nineteen-year-old West Chester, Pa., resident Corey Christian Adams accepted the plea agreement Friday on charges of rape, criminal solicitation of murder and other counts.

In July, a 20-year-old woman who had accused Adams of raping her after a party called police to point out a posting on his Facebook page offering $500 for "a girls head." In a later posting, police say Adams said "he needed this girl knocked off right now."

The Daily Local News of West Chester reports that neither Adams nor his attorney commented outside court.

$500 bucks for a hit? No "decent" crime abiding citizen would stoop that low to offer his services. Not even a crackhead would do it. Poor guy is gonna rot in the cellar.

Facebook's privacy settings, account settings and blocking features makes it simple for a kid to create a profile hidden from parents.

Given that kids, in general, are 1) more tech savvy than their parents, and 2) have a relatively large amount of unstructured free time, it is likely many are creating Facebook profiles of which their parents are completely unaware. It is also likely that kids who do this are engaging in questionable activity, possibly endangering themselves and/or others, all unknown by parents.

We've all known that there are idiots like these everywhere in large numbers; However since FaceBook became a social institution (for reasons I STILL don't understand), it seems like either the world is increasingly full or more idiots, or we're just alerted to their existence far more frequently that in previous history.

Honestly, I can't tell which is the more likely conclusion. I have friends that I used to considered intelligent, but FaceBook has put them on the same level as the guy mentioned in the above article once or twice.

This is just another example of what not to put on your Facebook page. People should realize that everyone can see your profile and you will get in trouble if you say your going to kill someone. I'm glad the police arrested him. People like this need to be off of the street.

Given the murders, attacks, burglaries and home invasions involving the use of Facebook profiles and given Facebook's demonstrable history of selling users personal information, compromising users privacy and hiding privacy controls it's surprising more people aren't concerned about how (or if) they use Facebook.

It's even more remarkable parents seem unconcerned with their children's profiles.

@QSO, Here's a lightbulb moment...rather than wasting all this time you've outlined creating phony avatars, email addresses and living in FB paranoia...turn off the computer and spend that time with your kids.

OY!
