To be a man of few words is not necessarily a bad thing. Being a man of no words leaves the impression that either the non-speaker has no idea of what is being said or has already made up their mind. A big part of the practice of law is based upon the oral arguments of the lawyers for each side in any issue. If a Judge, even a Supreme Court Justice, admits that his/her mind is already made up before oral  Read More...

The Peter Principle was nowhere more evident than here - the ultimate in supreme idiocy. I guess he can't get any higher than here.

Thomas is not the first quiet justice. In the 1970s and 1980s, William J. Brennan, Thurgood Marshall, and Harry Blackmun were likewise generally quiet.[154][155] However, Thomas's silence stood out in the 1990s as the other eight justices engaged in active questioning.[155]

I guess by remaining quiet people won't realize how even dumber he is than we already know.

Try to read any of his opinions. Your statement shows how ignorant you really are.

He doesn't get paid to speak. I'm sure Papa Bush instructed him what his role was.

A clear indication of a nation's decline is the calibre of its judicial system.

With the depths we have sunk to with this lot of thugs (the fascist five), our SUPREME justices (barf), how can anyone respect its laws.

Maybe he is following that old saying . Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. IMHO

The article cleared up one misconception I had. His favorite movie is 'Saving Private Ryan.' I thought it was 'Shaving Ryan's Privates.' Honest mistake.

He should be impeached. 5 years and not a utterance, what a mental midget and an utter disgrace.
02:32 AM on 02/16/2011
Not necessarily a mental midget. He could already have his mind made up about how he's going to rule and is just going through the motions.

It just shows that he's made up his mind about the case before the oral arguments are ever presented. He's probably made up his mind before he's even read the briefs.

He's no Thurgood Marshall, let me tell you. The worst SC justice, next to Scalia, EVER!

Justice Thomas has other major issues, the least of which is not talking. His and Scalia's associations with conservative groups, not to mention Thomas's wife's political involvements, should bring his judgement into question.

Why should he say anything? His wife does all of the talking for him. But in all seriousness, I don't buy his various reasons for not speaking or asking questions during oral argument before the court. He is such a liar. I think he does not ask questions because he has not done his homework or any work on the case prior to oral argument. I wonder if he even understands what the cases are about. He's nothing but a Bush prop and a token.
