First Posted: 02/14/11 09:17 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

UPDATE: CBS 2 Los Angeles issued a statement about the health of its reporter Serene Branson on Monday afternoon. Her slurred and unintelligible speech during a live report on the Grammy awards sparked rumors that she had been hospitalized for a potential stroke. But the station said that didn't happen:

Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning.

Poor air quality. Look for a nearby oil refinery, power plant, or chemical plant.

If she is a local scene field reporter she might not have any insurance. I hope that doesn't stop her from getting things checked out though.

Something happened. She should have an MRI. I've had 3 strokes and some TIA's before them. It could have been a TIA which might not show on an MRI, but a stroke would. An aspirin a day would be good advice until she gets checked.

If you see anyone having what you might think are stroke symptoms, remember F.A.C.E.:

F. Face (droopy?)
A. Arms (lift both?)
S. Speech (slurred?)
T.Time (call 911)

That time issue is what helps the most with any kind of brain injury. Think Gabby Giffords!

I hope she's okay. She looked scared.

What is a TIA?

Transient Ischemic Attack
A person experiences stroke like symptoms which are not permanent. Usually TIAs are precursors to a stroke. Treatment usually consists of regular use of aspirin or other blood thinners. If a person suffers a TIA, they definitely need to see a physician - whether or not they return to 'feeling fine'.

I think you meant to say, "remember F.A.S.T."

(F.A.C.E is the mnemonic for the notes between the lines on the treble clef.)

When I saw it live I thought I was having hearing issues or the transmission was garbled. It is scary to realize you can have a neurological event instantly out of the blue. Hopefully she will see a Neurologist and all checks out well.

sounds like it could also be Bell's Palsy.

I've had Bell's Palsy recently and it did not cause my speech to slur that bad.

I had Bell's Palsy too about a dozen years ago, and it was nothing like that.

I have epilepsy, and that looks an awful lot like when I get an aphasia type partial complex seizure. I hope she has been scheduled for an EEG. An MRI wouldn't catch it. When it happens, I know what I want to say, but my mouth won't do it. It lasts 2 to 5 minutes, and then I'm back to normal speech. These tend to come in clusters, so if she has some repeat episodes over the next few weeks, I'd recommend she see a Neurologist, and get the EEG.

That's what I heard as well, aphasia brought on by a seizure. I saw it live and it was very alarming.

She clearly is not ok. Had she been drunk or nervous, she would have had an automatic reaction to the mess up, be it laughing or what not. You can see that she seemed to have no idea what was happening and I hope she moves forward with tests. The station is making themselves look worse by acting like she's fine in my opinion.

If someone is trying to make this pretty they've lost the war. I heard this and she should be in a hospital getting a CT scan, MRI or something. Small ones usually lead to bigger ones. It appeared so subtle too!!!!

Agree she should NOT be home. Clearly something happened. It can be anything from a TIA to a brain tumor (probably unlikely) or even a migraine. I have optic migraines and at times I can suffer from significant memory loss. A friend of mine has migraines and DID over the phone start talking gobble de gook...so you don't know. Definitely get it checked. Just note CAT Scans carry a TON of radiation ... MRI's are better.

she is not okay...something is up with the station backpeddaling so much.

I hope she gets checked and is OK or they find something that can be fixed.

It's nice to see the religious fanatics haven't said she was possessed by demons because she supports gay rights or abortion or something they don't like. Maybe Glenn Beck will weight in with one of his conspiricy theory rants - maybe an alien body inhabitation of her or something he saw in Men in Black.
