LG Optimus 3D Smartphone Is The First Of Its Kind

BARCELONA, Spain — LG Electronics is showing off the first phone with a color 3-D screen and a 3-D camera.

The South Korean electronics company's Optimus 3D drew large crowds eager to give it a test run on Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The screen produces the illusion of depth without the need for special glasses, and includes a pair of five-megapixel lenses for taking 3D photos and video.

The phone must be held at the proper distance and angle in order for the viewer to perceive depth. It runs on Google Inc.'s Android 2.2 operating system.

LG Electronics Inc. said the 3D phone will be sold in the spring, but it didn't announce a deal with a U.S. carrier.

I think it's such a waste. A phone is a phone is a phone. All the rest is simply adult toymanship, a distraction. So much tech is wasted on what people are buying and/or can be enticed/coerced to buy, instead of where civilization should be headed, in improvement cohesion. I've decided to hate smartphones on principle.

The 3DS isn't a smartphone though. They are only reporting on the first "smartphone" that is running this level of tech and it isn't even a HuffPo article, it's an aggregate article from the AP (thus the little AP logo under the article's title in bold) so, yeah... Sheesh, quit being such a hater.

I will never understand why people keep bashing HuffPo about their tech site or any other section. It's an aggregate news site that pulls in articles from dozens of different places based on what has been the most highly viewed, rated or commented on from those sources including (but not limited to) TMZ, the AP, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, BBC, Ars Technica, Engadget and so many more...

Seems like a no brainer for the most part. 3d with no glasses technology uses two screens aimed at each eye. Touch screen technology works the same way...by having two screens with sensors in the middle to register the touch. So why not just turn one of those screens into a display. Sure, it will cost a bit more but it'll be cool.
