Rajon Rondo Smothers LeBron James: Celtics Point Guard Harasses Heat Huddle (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/14/11 08:07 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo did just about everything in Boston's 85-82 victory over Miami, recording his third triple-double of the season. He had 11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and absolutely smothered LeBron James on defense throughout the game.

Rondo's defense caused James to commit four turnovers in the first half.

"I thought Rondo just willed us the game," coach Doc Rivers said. "Rondo just took it upon himself that whoever was bringing the ball up he was going to guard and harass. And I thought that changed the game for us."

After Dwyane Wade intentionally elbowed Kevin Garnett in the third quarter, the officials huddled up to discuss the foul. The Heat also huddled up and during the break, Rondo kept harassing Miami until LeBron pushed him away.

Ray Allen had to pull Rondo back to the Celtics bench. Scroll down to watch the videos.

Rondo has a lot of fire in him, but he should save the head game stuff for the playoffs.

I love it iff the NBA would allow a guy of Lebron's size play D like that...but they don't, big men are not afforded those liberties so it only undermines the integrity of the game.

When you are a champion, you get to do that. You must not have seen Shaq and Duncan play defense?

OH and Lebron doesn't play defense.

Things to note. The Heat actually closed the score gap while Rondo was guarding James so while it might have looked interesting on the big screen, on the court it wasn't particularly effective, which is why Doc finally abandoned it. It wouldn't have been fodder for amusement had Miller hit the three. People would have questioned the decision. As it was, Doc got out of that line of questions.

Also, the Celtics and the Heat are my two favorite teams (being a chowda now living in south Florida) but Rondo has got absolutely no jump shot whatsoever and this is why he's NOT better than Derrick Rose. Once Rondo spends some time in the gym to get one, it will only make him better. There is absolutely no excuse to be a six-foot and change NBA guard and shoot 56% from the free throw line. Kids in eight grade are better than that.

I agree his shot is suspect, but i think he is by far a better player than rose. He has run away with the assists title, his rebounding is superior to Rose and his defense is ALL-NBA. He just offers more than Rose and i think (next to or ahead of LeBron) he is the best chance for a triple double in the league.

Plus, on his team he doesn't need to shoot. The Celtics have more talent (top to bottom) than the Lakers.

Rondos assists are inflated because he plays with three hall of famers. Allen Garnett and Pierce are three of the best shooters at their positions so it stands to reason how should have big assist numbers. His defense is way better then rose but he gets more rebounds because he never had to shoot, rose is expected to be a scoring leader. He will never be able to score like rose does while rose will be able to get more assists if he played with better scorers

Rondo is a great player, too bad he's over-shadowed by an amazing Cs line-up...

Lol he's starting to pick up KG's antics and swagger, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Respect him for volunteering to guard Lebron James. He talks alot but he also walks the talk.

The celtics have more championships then any team lebron james played for. Of course lebron has never played with three future hall of fame teammates so comparing rings is pointless

I've thought that Rondo was a pink ever since he threw Kirk Heinrich into the scorers table. Anytime there's an altercation I always see him shove somebody, even if he isn't involved

He would not do that in the NBA of the 80s and early 90s... He'd be mugged in the lane.. .. The Heat coached should have sent a player off the bench to take him out .. hard!!

The Celts, riddled with injuries, did an amazing job. But as Rivers pointed out, they couldn’t have done it without Rondo. Watching him yesterday was a joy, including when he stood next to the Heat huddle. That was hilarious. On paper, Miami is the better team and may well win the East. Still, I give the Green credit for hanging around and beating the big boys in the league most of the time.
