Bahrain MAP: Population, Facts About Mideast Nation

First Posted: 02/15/11 04:06 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

The latest Bahrain news of protests in the nation has caused many to wonder details about Bahrain, including where it is on a map.

Thousands of anti-government protesters have called for reform the last few days, inspired by the Egypt revolution which forced its president to step down. Security forces have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters, who on Tuesday gained control of the main square in Bahrain's capital of Manama.

For those unfamiliar with Bahrain, the small island country - known for its oil and pearl - is located near the western shores of the Persian Gulf, with Saudia Arabia to the west and Qatar southeast. Here's Bahrain on a map:

Bahrain is a tiny nation, encompassing only 290 square miles, and has a population of approximately 738,000, per the CIA Factbook. The population is 81 percent Muslim and the official language is Arabic.

Bahrain is made up of 33 islands in all and the largest is Bahrain Island, and the nation earned its independence from Persia in 1783.

Bahrain government now are facing violence by opposite leaders. And U.S. are supported opposite leaders. LOL......... for U.S administration. It has one reason. Barack Obama are always afraid for Muslim countries. Are you agree with me?

And the errors keep on rolling in, from this article above, quote ".., and the nation earned its independence from Persia in 1783."

Whaaat??? Britain took away Bahrain from Iran in the mid-1970s by re-shuffling some of Iran's borders, again, not in "1783". What's the purpose for these misrepresentations?? Bahrain was a part of Iran until the 1970s.

No, Iran maintained its claim and in a deal with Britain in withdrew its claim in exchange for 3 strategic Islands in 1971.

Yes I am aware of the Tunbs and A.M. islands deal & exchange, but it was not per the decision of Iran, Britain made that decision on Bahrain and initiated it.

........Britain made the decision, and Iran was forced to accept.
