Betsy Markey Lands Homeland Security Job

Former congresswoman Betsy Markey has landed on her feet, announcing today that she will begin work as the assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs in the Department of Homeland Security.

The Greeley Tribune first reported the news Wednesday morning, citing an email Markey sent to supporters in which she said she was "excited to continue my service to the country in this new role."

"Betsy Markey brings more than 30 years of experience in public service and the private sector to her new role at the Department of Homeland Security, and will be a valuable asset in leading our efforts to engage closely with state, local and tribal governments across the United States to carry out all aspects of our complex mission," Department of Homeland Security press secretary Matt Chandler said in a release.

Markey was elected to represent Colorado's 4th Congressional District in 2008, becoming the first Democrat since 1973 to represent the rural district.

She lasted only one term before being defeated by Cory Gardner in the 2010 midterms.

Markey had previously worked for the U.S. Customs Service and the State Department.

nice, i helped this worthless lady get elected. she dumped all of us liberals in her district, then came begging us to help her in her campaign against gardner. after her voting record though, i had a hard time supporting her second run and she never responded to letters/emails about my concerns of her right turn. so, after we oust her worthless tooshie, she gets a new government job from that worthless president.
i wish liberals had a party here in the us, centrists have the dems and pyschos have the republicans, we're left as a large and unrepresented faction.

Oh wonderful, she sold us out during her short tenure as a blue dog now she lands on her feet with a cushy Homeland Security job doing nothing to actually improve security for anyone. No surprise that people are fed up with both parties and the lackeys who always seem to come out on top. What a waste.

Our border with Mexico used to run through Colorado (a hundred and sixty-five years ago) so I guess Homeland Security is a good fit.
