Puppy Woman Tried To Mail Now Up For Adoption In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — A puppy that escaped a possibly deadly trip through the mail and won the hearts of admirers worldwide will be available for adoption this week.

The city of Minneapolis says a drawing to adopt Guess, a 5-month-old schnauzer-poodle mix, will be held Friday. People who are interested have to be at the Minneapolis Animal Care and Control shelter, and animal control manager Dan Niziolek says he's expecting a line.

Guess was saved from a trip through the mail to Georgia that officials say likely would have killed it when postal workers opened the package.

Shelter official Jeanette Wiedemeier Bower said hundreds of people from across the U.S. and the world have asked to adopt Guess. She says the agency hopes the attention will encourage people to adopt other animals.

What an adorable little guy!
Thank goodness the postmaster found him in time!
The sheer stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me!
I'm sure he'll find a loving home...lots of media attention helps.
Hopefully all the other adorable little guys and gals at the pounds will find great homes, too.
They're waiting patiently--hoping to get out of their cage and into a real loving home, but they don't have forever....some only have days.

My two dogs are my sons. The only tough part will be eventually saying goodbye to them. I think about that every time I give them a hug. I'm the softie and they know it, but what the heck.....right?

Yes, Guess is a lovely dog and deserves a great home after what he's been through. But there's lots of other dogs and cats at the shelter that are just as special and deserving as Guess. All the people that lose out in the drawing should adopt another dog (or cat) from the shelter.

a drawing is not a good way to adopt out! let's hope only the good-home candidates are allowed in the pot, or he could end up with another bad owner. (the good shelters/rescues only adopt out to good homes after a face-to-face interview where the questions they ask determine and disqualify the bad candidates/homes).

All the cats and dogs that are warehoused and euthanized for want of a home and they need a drawing because so many people want this dog? I'm glad there are people eager to give him a home- don't get me wrong. I just wish the average person realized the magnitude of the problem of animals in need of homes.
