Gwyneth Paltrow Advises How To Dress Your Kids

Gwyneth Paltrow may be an extremely busy working mom, but that doesn't stop her from dressing kids Apple and Moses in style. In her latest GOOP newsletter, she gives clothing suggestions to parents who want their children to look different than their peers.

Gwyneth writes:

This week we showcase some beautifully made, very original lines of children's clothing that we have recently discovered and are adoring. Mostly started by mothers, these companies are producing very unique, very cool, and not yet ubiquitous things for the little ones in your life.
Love,
gp

These items from Busy Bees are "totally wearable today but also lasting." They are supposed to be able to be passed from one generation to the next, so we'll see if Apple hangs onto her summer loungewear long enough to get her daughter into it.

This reversible jumper allows your child to decide each day whether she feels like being a bear or a wolf. It is made in Bolivia from local Alpaca wool.

Gwyneth also gives suggestions for a child poncho, straw hat, Hamptons top and pajamas conceived by a woman "faced with the problem of finding quality pjs while living in southwestern France."

Apple and Moses. Two hard-line biblical names if ever I heard any.

Dear G,
Get in touch with the real world, where we would NEVER spend $77 for an outfit (not including shoes, etc!!!) for our young child, not even if we were going to meet Jesus H F--- C--- and his entire crew, nor would we EVER dress our child like a wombat, not even on Halloween.

Signed,
You're Out of Touch

because every toddler needs a $100 hoodie. Go to Target, buy 10, and you'll still have $$ left over to donate to a shelter or foodbank or something.

can we just sew her up in a burlap sack and lock it in a barn somewhere?

She clearly doesn't get why so many people can't stand her. Sorry Gwyneth most people don't rake in the kind of money you do to spend on kids clothing.

Gwyneth has opinions and she's sharing, it really is ok. I think sharing one's opinion is very brave because some people take others opinions so personally and "go over the top". Everybody has interesting opinions, some I agree with, some I don't but opinions I don't agree with aren't going to make me "fall on the knife".

Wish I could afford a $77 dress. And what does she mean "and are adoring" ??? Did she mean adorable? Or was she thinking how much everyone will be adoring her when they read this?
07:00 PM on 02/18/2011
I think she meant, and I don't presume to speak Gwynnie, that she and her minions had discovered and that they are adoring their discovery.

Aha! That makes sense. I guess the rich are different from you and me in how they talk, too.

Why does she think these clothes are reasonably priced? Does she not have access to a Walmart?

They are not cheap Chinese cr@p. They are supposed to be passed down from generation to generation. It's meant to be an investment--as clothes should be.
12:08 PM on 02/18/2011
do you have kids? the most well constructed piece of kids clothing will have grape juice and pasketti stains within hours of being put on. clothes are an investment, but not kids clothes.

The clothes are really cute, but the prices! What average family can afford to dress their children this way?

I agree.  My wife and I depend largely on hand-me-downs and secondhand stores.  Even if I could afford these clothes, though, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere, like on college or retirement savings.
