Sustainable Eco-Fashion From New York Fashion Week 2011 (PHOTOS)

From Ecouterre:

While the forecast remained frigid, the Big Apple seemed to warm up just a bit with all the buzz and energy surrounding New York Fashion Week, and just like Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, sustainable fashion took a front row seat at many of the shows. Heavy eco fashion hitters like gamine-chic Bodkin, innovative Study by Tara St. James, Bono and Ali Hewson's Edun, and the always classic Organic by John Patrick dressed their models to impress with sophisticated, wearable fall and winter silhouettes in sumptuous and sustainable fabrics. Click through the slideshow of Ecouterre's favorite looks for a peek into the shows you might have missed.

I like that it's sort of eco friendly. 'Sort of' because throwing out clothes because they are 'so last year' isn't. But does it have to be soooo depressing. Gray, black and an awful baby poop brown.
Maybe the palet has less to do with it being eco friendly and more to do with the what is happening in our society'; going from bad to worse.

sustainable fashion is an oxymoron. if it's meant to be only used for a season it's not sustainable.
clothes made from organic, fairtrade materials are a good idea though.,

The most sustainable garment is not shaving and nothing else.

One other designer that deserves to be on the list is Costello Tagliapietra. For four seasons they've made use of AirDye® technology to create their trademark color designs.
The best part of using AirDye is that it's non-toxic and doesn't use any water saving up to 45 gallons of water, 95 megajoules of energy, and 3 kilograms of greenhouse gas with each dress.
For Fall 2011, the designers found a way to use fur that was sustainably sourced (the animals were less than a year old and died of natural causes).
