Fox Reporter Greeted With 'Fox Lies' Chants In Madison

Wisconsin Protest

First Posted: 02/18/11 05:51 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Fox News anchor Chris Cotter and reporter Jeff Flock found the scene in Madison, Wisconsin a little bit inhospitable, as the gathered protesters chanted "Fox lies" over and over again during their afternoon hit from the state capitol building. One gentleman in a woolly hat was especially emphatic about his opinion that "Fox lies." "Fox lies!" he said, adding, "Fox lies." Flock quipped, "Those appear to be the only two words he knows," but credited the majority of the crowd for being "reasoned, calm, and willing to talk."

As it turns out, questions regarding the veracity of the content on Fox News have been raised in more substantive ways of late. Additionally, many of the protesters carrying signs criticizing Fox for being "fascist" nevertheless praised their sports coverage, so that's something.

i wish that guy was a little bit more eloquent but at least he was telling the truth. he should have said that their propaganda machine doesnt really buy into the whole factual accuracy paradigm that most reputable news agencies value but "Fox lies will suffice!"

Typical... just vague nothings.

Seriously...Remember when it took Glenn Beck about 30 days to debunk his own FEMA work camp conspiracy, all the reporting on the daily dollar amount of Obama's trip to the Middle East, championing the whole WMD lies, heavily promoting the whole "birth certificate" lie, anytime Sarah Palin is on Fox News and her lips are moving - even with no sound coming out of her mouth - STILL COUNTS ! Would you like specifics?

1.) Bill Hemmer reported that Department of Education official Kevin Jennings knew of a "statutory rape" case involving a 15-year-old student but "never reported it." In fact, the student was above the age of consent.
2.) In March, Fox News's Martha MacCallum presented a clip of Vice President Joe Biden saying "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" -- and presented it as from an interview that weekend. In fact, the clip came from a 2008 campaign event at which Biden was quoting Sen. John McCain.
3.) In April, Fox News's Wendell Goler reported on an Obama question-and-answer session that was cut short to make it seem as if the president wanted a health care system "like the European countries." In fact, he was just restating a question -- he went on to say that he opposed such a system.

"Fox News is fond of boasting about their ratings dominance. It is a daily occurrence and the structural core of their argument that they reflect the mood of America. The GOP has bought this argument in its entirety. So it is important to note here that success in the Nielsen ratings has no correlation to public opinion polling. The ratings only measure the program choices of Nielsen’s survey participants. That is a subset of the population at large, and not a particularly representative one. It is a sample focused on consumers, not voters. And its respondents are just those willing to have their TV viewing monitored 24 hours a day, which skews the sample in favor of people who aren’t creeped out by that.
As for what constitutes success in the television marketplace, due to the broad diversification of available programming, it doesn’t take much to be heralded as a hit. A mere 3 share (3% of people watching TV) will land you in the top 10. For cable news the bar is set even lower. In fact, the top rated show on the top rated cable news network (The O’Reilly Factor) only gets about 3 million viewers. That’s less than 1% of the American population. It’s also less than World Wrestling Entertainment, SpongeBob SquarePants, and the CBS Evening News (the lowest rated broadcast network news program). By contrast, America’s Got Talent is seen by 12 million viewers – four times O’Reilly’s audience."

Some more interesting facts, If rating only count towards the so called credibility of a news organization, then how is Faux's rating on the net as far as political news goes? not in the top ten, Huffpo? in the top three.
Another interesting fact is that a rupert murdoch owned company produces those boxes that neilsen uses to conduct their tv ratings with, and we all know how murdoch has used wiretapping in other countries, to get stories, so would hacking those boxes be much more of a stretch? I think not

Union bosses sending their members to intimidate FOX News reporters, whats new? Unions may own their democrat politicians but they can't buy FOX. Reminds me of the dictators in the Mid-east sending their security forces to assault, imprison and intimidate News reporters.

Public employees never should have been Unionized. President Theodore Roosevelt opposed Unions for public sector workers because taxpayers would not be protected. Private sector employees and business are paid salaries and benefits based upon what the free market can afford.

The main reasons for not unionizing public employees is rampant fraud, blackmail and criminal activity between politicians and Union bosses. Politicians give in to the demands of Union bosses or face well financed (taxpayer dollars) Union opposition. These are professional groups, paid through unlimited taxpayer dollars that demand more benefits or threaten politicians with protests and well funded opposition. We must stop politicians from raiding the revenue from Federal and State taxes to pay Unions to buy Votes.

Wake up You just are to scared to stand up to the Walker,s of the world,He is trying to help the Republicans eviscerate the middle class ,this no accident,This is a power play by The people who run Walker, Plus this not about money,Jesus,it is about the right for representation, and I would be the first to say if it about money that is different . The State of Wisconsin had a surplus of money not a deficit, In January Walker gave 126 million in tax breaks to big oil and business, He created the deficit, now he wants the middle class of Wisconsin to take the hit, ,Walker tried this twice and lost to the courts in Wisconsin, He tried to fire union workers and hire all new and pay less money and no benefits, The Wisconsin court ruled this illegal,The Justice Department made him return workers to their jobs, So do not talk about things you read or thought you knew it is not what you think, Union workers lost billions by letting Republicans put their benefits in the hands of Wall Street and we saw how great that worked. Theodore Roosevelt talked in his era, and if you have any illusion you work in a capitalistic free market get over that, the wealth in this country is the biggest gap in 45 years,2% own 98% of this countries wealth, Union people are amateurs compared to Koch oil and the BILLIONS they spend to suppress wages and benefits

First of all, no one has to send people to intimidate Fox news. Most of us would pay to have a Fox news reporter in front of us and let us boooo him. Secondly, if tea party activists can shout, carry guns, carry racist and hate mongering signs and posters with demeaning, ugly, racist pictures then workers, teachers, policemen, fire fighters, postal workers, students, etc can protest for what they believe in. The only people who acted like dictators in protests were tea baggers who carried guns in many cases, advocated revolution, and stomped on a womans head during the Paul Rand campaign or the alaskan guy who campaigned for Senator and hired his own private goon security force, who unlawfully detained and held captive an alaskan reporter for over a half an hour. The main reason for not unionizing public employees is to hold them hostage and prevent them negotiating for benefits, work place safety issues, etc, and enable governors to cut arbitrarily workers benefits and salary in order to balance the budget while they continue to give tax breaks to the wealthy, as this Wisconsin Governor did ( after he took office a couple of months ago, he reduced taxes for wealthy and big business and added it the deficit he now demands the workers pay for). We must stop politicians from raiding middle class incomes, in order to further their generous and financial benefits to big corporations and the wealthy who contribute to their coffers.
