Paris Hilton's Awkward Port Authority Appearance

Awkward Paris Hilton Event Ends InIntern Shoving A Cop

City Room reports that Paris Hilton was slated to appear at a charitable event at the Port Authority for the United Service Organizations, a nonprofit that provides support for military families. Of course, this being Paris Hilton the appearance didn't go exactly to plan.

First, Hilton arrived to the lunch over an hour and a half late, which very much irked some of the nonprofit members. "Who keeps the military waiting like that?" one Port Authority officer asked.

Another strange aspect is that no press was allowed at the event, so the Times photographer, intern Karly Domb Sadof, was forced to take pictures of the event through a hazy window.

Afterwards, police escorted Hilton through Port Authority, which also bothered passersby ( "I can't believe we pay tax dollars for her to be escorted here by the police," said a woman selling apple cider at Thursday farmers' market).

City Room points out that Hilton's PR people asked that no photos be taken, but the New York Times intern excercized her right to free press and took pictures as she pleased. A crowd formed, an altercation ensued, and apparently the intern shoved a cop in the face, an act for which she was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.
