Kim Kardashian: Keg Stand For Birthday In Las Vegas (VIDEO)

Turning 30, partying like a college student.

In this week's episode of "Kourtney and Kim Take New York," the girls switch up the coasts and head to Las Vegas, where they celebrate Kim's 30th birthday in style. At a packed party with what are most obviously her closest friends, Kim lets herself get a little crazy, drinking frat party style.

That means a keg stand.

And hey, if you're making $65 million a year, you can pretty much do whatever you want, right?

While I rarely watch other than flipping through the channels on rare occasion, I think there is unique talent involved in what the Kardashians do as part of their "reality" shows. Being natural, fully at ease, and remaining interesting to their audience while going through the paces of their celebrity lifestyles, or as some would prefer- improvising their scenes, is not something many, including "talented" celebrities could pull off on an ongoing basis. Sex is not the show's main appeal. One would guess the primary audience is approximately teens to 30-something, predominately female, who feel they often relate to members of their own families in a similar way as the Kardashians, and enjoy the vicarious glitz and glamor of a fantasy lifestyle. It's a reality/fantasy/escapism hybrid not really seen before.

To the contrary, about 90% of what passes for our popular culture is dreck best avoided. That includes much of what passes for "highbrow" entertainment people frequently take to these pages to rave and marvel at. That would include "brilliant" soap operas, hackneyed musical sitcoms, actresses who churn out steady streams of mediocre "romcoms", hip hoppers who rely on autotune, children of overrated celebrities forced down the public's throat, and actresses with supposedly, yet unseen "great" song and dance skills learned as pre teens at Celebrity Kids Camp just to name just a few. "Talent" could be called a highly relative term in that context.
