John Hopkins, Accused Of Having a Craigslist Sex Slave, Says Relationship Was Consensual

A man accused of keeping a woman as a sex slave has a very different take on what lead to his arrest.

John Hopkins was arrested last week after a woman claimed she was handcuffed to a radiator and raped over the course of eight days.

The woman, whose name has not been released by police, told cops she answered an ad on Craigslist offering free rent in a Williamsburg apartment, in exchange for cooking and cleaning.

Hopkins told the Daily News the woman is lying.

From the News:

The Williamsburg resident said they started to meet up for role-play sex sessions that involved him tying her up as the "slave" while he acted as "master."

"I didn't rape her," insisted Hopkins, who works as an audio engineer. "Everything we did was role-playing. In the game of role-play, the 'slave' actually has the power."

Hopkins added that he had one question for the woman whose accusations landed him in Rikers Island accused of first-degree rape and several other charges: "Why did you do this to me?"

"Everything they're saying I did was consensual," Hopkins said. "She could have left if she wanted to, but she didn't."

Hopkins said his relationship with the woman went on for several weeks until she began to binge drink.

He said she was kicked out of her friend's apartment and spent the night in Central Park where she was attacked.

She returned to Hopkins' apartment where she drank a half-bottle of Vodka, Hopkins claims.

When he called the woman's mother to tell her about the situation, she talked to her daughter and then called the cops.

"I got railroaded," Hopkins said. "A woman says anything happened to them in New York State, and they believe her and not the man. It's not fair."

I see these comments by men, you may be right, but just on the premise that the woman is telling the truth, the guy should be DNA tested as if she is telling the truth, this is a very dangerous man. If it comes down to "he said" "she said" - then it should not be prosecuted - I'd have to agree with that.

I sure hope that they do a DNA test on this guy, because if it is true, he could have done much worse in the past. I would tend to believe the woman as I do not see a reason for her to make this up if she was simply in need of a place to stay, she'd be ruining that by making this up. Sorry dude, I don't think a whole lot of people are going to believe you, and I think you should be tested to see if you left any bodies out there somewhere!

Almost a majority of rapes don't get prosecuted/reported. John Hopkins says, "A woman says anything happened to them in New York State, and they believe her and not the man. It's not fair.", ya ok....but if they didn't believe the victim it would weaken the already weak system. Thats how the law works, both sides vehemently argue their positions, the vast majority of the time justice is found.

The woman is dumber than a rock, she really could have left and reported the assault to the police. Yet she came back to him.

I sympathize with the man, I really do. In NY a woman just has to say that a man did something wrong and you get REAMED by the authorities. The woman is ALWAYS right and the man is ALWAYS wrong.

AH- I see you've decided to bravely not base your opinions on any types of facts. How 'unique' of you. It is actually an incredibly high burden to prove rape. Most rapes that are reported don't even go to trial for lack of evidence. So the idea that a woman just has to say she was raped, and the guy goes to jail, is beyond ludicrous. I guess there might be a legitimate fear out there from men that they could be accused and they would have no proof to exculpate themselves. But a jury needs to convict you beyond a reasonable doubt- anything short and you go free. And a she said/he said is NOT beyond a reasonable doubt. There almost always needs to be more. And the DA won't even prosecute unless there's a strong case. And if you are a non-raping man, you should actually want the conviction rate to be higher than it already is! Because both men and women are rape victims. (Most men are perpatraters tho). So it is much more likely that as a man you will be raped by another man and not have him convicted than be accused of rape- and convicted- while you are innocent.

The man doesn't need to be convicted; he just needs to be accused. It is innocent until accused and then you are, for the rest of your life, marred with the black mark of being accused of a sexual crime.

Have you read "the facts"? They're very few and don't add up. I'd never not believe a woman, but something is missing in this case. If he called her mom, there's a record of it in his cell bills. If they dig, there's got to be email, text, phone call, etc proof to convict him or prove he's telling the truth.

It's soo awesome how you have no facts to base your "findings". Nearly half of rapes don't get prosecuted or reported because the impossibility of proving what actually happened. Get some facts "majestry".
