WHY: Textural and with a gritty sensuality, Maria Gimenez' work ranges from rough brush strokes to paint a woman's body to the more defined lines of a small animal. They have a fascinating pull to them, while also giving the viewer a keen sense of curiosity.
Maria Gimenez' images have a marked propensity for the perverse. She manages to seduce her viewer with intuitive, conceptual work that unveils a witty and inspired talent. On first consideration, her paintings evoke a rough and expressive tenor and although the titles of Gimenez's work pare lighthearted and even comical, the work itself is not.(From: APF Lab)
