President's Day 2011: A Look Back At The Best Presidential Vacation Shots (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 02/21/11 01:18 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Here at the Huffington Post, we like keeping up with all things presidential. From First Lady Michelle Obama's style to historic presidential hotels, we love it all.

On this President's Day, it's only fitting to highlight the best (and perhaps funniest) vacation photos of the past nearly 30 years (never mind the most embarrassing). From Gerald Ford to Barack Obama, here are some of the highlights from presidential vacations (or low-lights: remember the photo of the Clintons heading to Martha's Vineyard just one day after Bill admitted to an affair in 1998?) from recent years.

What stikes me most is the pain on the faces of Mrs. Obama and the daughters at Cape Coast Castle in Ghana. That must be hard to confront that history, at whatever age.

Sir

Yes, that picture of the Clintons on the beach was farcical; all done for the benefit of the ‘hidden’ pressmen, and all done to divert attention away from Bill Clintons ‘indiscretions’.

How amazing it is that the two Clintons both evidently thought that a fake smooch on the beach would be enough to damp down the stories.

Sincerely, Derek Lantin. http://dereklantin.booksabuzz.com

She's wearing  a nice, demure single-piece suit and it looks good on her.  Remember this was 1998, at which time she was 50 years old.

When are people gonna get over the Clinton indecressions? Big Deal, he wasn't a perfect husband. Lots of people aren't perfect. Maybe he still floats her boat. Forgiveness is NOT a sign of weakness.

When you consider how strong our economy was and how everyone was doing just fine financially, maybe all Presidents should have an affair or two........that was no ones' business what was happening in the Clinton's marraige...it didn't put one of us in harms way.....only the sexually repressed right is worrying about what grown folks are doing in their sex lives.........

Best presidential image is Reagan and Gorbachev in the cowboy hats at the ranch.

Is it just me or does President Obama look like a twelve-year-old in that last picture on the bike?
Sometimes, being "safe" means looking like a dork, I guess...

As far as Bill and Hillary showing affection for one another, it is thier marriage, thier relationship and they have worked it out to each others satisfaction. Judge not least you be judged. I think most of the vacation pictures show well known people like to do ordinary things. Not a bad thought huh?

The Clintons dancing looked like one of those Cialis commercials . . .

???

Judging by these photo choices, you'd think the only presidents we've ever had were Bill Clinton and George Bush.

Surely there were photos of presidents on vacation from before the '90's?

The "cute Clinton couple" pics make me kind of sick... How could a woman hug or...with a husband who has cheated on her repeatedly at least since he was governor? So much for women's lib, gag.
I read that the Clinton's only went to "the great outdoors" when their first vacation at Martha's Vineyard (or in that locale) was seen as mixing with the rich (mainly Dems in that area). The report on their outdoor trip? They HATED it!

Yes, she was not a good example of how a spouse should respond to infidelity, but she was more concerned about the political fallout. Could she have run for Prez in 2008? I would have had more respect for her as a candidate IF she had divorced him--a matter of good judgement.

She was foolish to marry him, others were foolish (even me back then) to vote for him.

Why are you so worked up? Most men cheat on their wives. I am old enough to know this. My name is male, but I am a twice divorced, single woman. I admire Hillary. They have propped each other up and he is well respected by all, as she is. They both have contributed much and they kept the family in tact for their daughter and their common goals. They got their priorities straight. Why is it terrible for them to love each other in spite of their faults? Who doesn't slip and fall? Were you just wishing they would divorce? It makes you sick? I find you odd. I do know she must have suffered terribly and consenting to the photograph was a sacrifice for her. But.....I bet Chelsea and her children will receive much joy from this piece of history.

Actually, I find YOUR attitude odd. "Oh well, so he cheats...". I am also a once divorced and happily remarried woman (22 yrs the 2nd time), but I would KNOW I was a terrible example to my daughter (and son) IF I had put up with my first husband's infidelity. I prefer a man who is faithful--call me crazy, but if women look the other way, women in this country really haven't come very far.

I didn't marry Bill Clinton (duh!) so I don't know what Hillary gets from the marriage, but they seem to be working it out as they want to. I'm not going to judge them.

These comments about the bodies of Clinton, etc are disgusting. I cant believe HP posts these photos and most of the responses are by people who think its ok to body snark. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
