For best novel my pick is N.K. Jemisin for "The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms." Highly recommended.

I would have to nominate Immaculate Fetish. Love that book. Waiting for the sequel.

A couple old timers stand out - Terry Pratchett, Connie Willis and Harlan Ellison. When it comes to children's books about witches I prefer Tiffany Aching to Harry Potter. Connie Willis' 'Passages' is a really fine novel and her current time travel novel should be worth while; 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' certainly was. And a new Ellison story that's a real treat.

Agree with you - Willis rocks. I just read 'Passages' last month, and I guess all I can say is I'll never view the movie 'Titanic' the same way again. My kid is a real Pratchett fan, and was distressed to read that he has dementia, but he is blogging his experiences. And as for Ellison - I'm glad to see he's still writing. Do you remember when Syfy was SciFi Channel, way back when, and they had a weekly science fiction news show on? Harlan was their resident curmudgeon, and I loved watching him.
