Carrie Underwood's Husband Mike Fisher's Trade Leads To Ottawa Radio Station Ban

First Posted: 02/22/11 01:29 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

NHL center Mike Fisher was recently traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Nashville Predators. Fisher's wife, country music star Carrie Underwood, was reportedly excited about the trade.

An Ottawa radio station isn't very happy about the move and reportedly blames Underwood.

According to HollywoodNews.com, Kiss 105.3 FM in Ottawa has banned Underwood's music because the station feels that Fisher was "lured away by his wife as she is stationed in Nashville."

Fisher denied the station's claims and defended Underwood.

"I don't know if it was for attention or not, but obviously Carrie had nothing to do with the move or the trade or anything so to imply something like that was just wrong," Fisher reportedly said.

Maybe she wanted to leave because there were no openings to sing either anthems at the Senators games.

They have a cop who is also an opera singer who does a great job and seems to remember all the lyrics of both anthems as well as those of Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, Britain, Italy, Japan, Germany and Israel.

Will be interesting to see if she gets some anthem slots in their new home

Even if this is true, so what? This would not be the first time in the history of mankind that one spouse relocated to please the other. I would be willing to venture that Carrie's musical career lasts a tad longer than Mike's hockey career.

This is the same silliness we heard when Gretzky made the move from Edmonton to LA. Because his wife was an actress, they blamed her for his wanting to go to La La Land. Enduring Edmonton winters had nothing to do with it; living in a big mansion in warm weather had nothing to do with it; planing for a losing team had nothing to do with it. What did have to do with it was the money they were willing to pay him to move. All the other reasons were just a bonus.

Maybe but when Chris Pronger demanded to be traded from Edmonton (coldest North America pro sports city) after a career year and run to the 7th game of a stanley cup it was reportedly because of his wife's (whose from St. Louis) disdain for the city and it's weather.

Pronger, Gretzky and Fisher all know the #1 Husband Rule:
"Happy wife, happy life."

One rumour I heard while I was living in Calgary was, Chris Pronger had an affaire on his wife and she demanded either a trade or a divorce.

Man, I love those coincidences when you just happen to get a job in the same city that you're wife has a job in. The fate of true love is alive and well.

Good for them, more hockey and less country music.

I believe Carrie Underwood had nothing to do with a trade to Nashville (I mean, how inconvenient for her music career) in the same way that I believe Janet Jones & her mythical acting career had nothing to do with Gretzky's trade to L.A.

I thought the days of lame program directors was over. Apparently not. I'm sure this move will affect the outcome of world peace. Note to PD's....'Get over yourself'.

I'm sure this one station not playing her music puts a big hurt on Carrie. I can see her career coming to an end....whatever will she do?

That is the most convenient trade ever.

... and it was a rock radio station who said they'd never play her music again. Either a gag, or a grab at cheap publicity, since they had never played her music before, either.

Yeah and Gretzky didn't force a trade to LA because his wife thought she was an actress. Oh wait he did. I'm sure Fisher requested to be traded to Nashville.

She's not his girlfriend, she's his wife. His name is Mike Fisher, not Corey Fisher.

You beat me to it. Just another example of HP slack fact checking and overall professionalism.

Still, it's nice to see a hockey story that isn't about a pseudo-"brawl".
