In one of the worst earthquakes in New Zealand in 80 years, 75 people have been confirmed dead with 55 identified in Christchurch, the Associated Press reports.

"'here are bodies littering the streets, they are trapped in cars, crushed under rubble and where they are clearly deceased our focus ... has turned to the living," police Superintendent Russell Gibson said.

More than 400 rescue workers from Taiwan to the U.S. have joined the search. The Salvation Army is accepting donations online, and a universal donation text number is currently being set up.
