Shawn Kemp Calls Blake Griffin's Car Dunk 'Weak'

Blake Griffin jumped over a car and threw down an alley-oop dunk to win the 2011 Dunk Contest over the weekend. However, former NBA player and dunking sensation Shawn Kemp didn't think much of it.

The 41-year-old joined KJR in Seattle with Dave Mahler and Ian Furness on Wednesday and called Griffin's final dunk "weak."

"I'm a big Blake Griffin fan, but that dunk at the contest might've been the weakest dunk in the dunk contest that I've seen in a long time," Kemp said. "I love the choir and all that stuff was great, but you at least gotta jump over the car though right."

Kemp also said that he could jump over a car.

"I'm 41 years old and right now I could do it. Two Smart Cars," he said.

Kemp is right. Same thing I said. McGee's dunks were better... Cept got his last one. Don't fake on Kemp's word... Dude the down some of the illest dunks on cats back in the day

First off, how did you know my drink of choice is gin(and tonic), second Jordan did dunk from the free-throw line. That is 15', maybe he wouldn't dunk the length of a lincoln , but he could have dunked over a miata (13') or something.

Okay, a couple of things. Yes, the dunk over the car wasn't as impressive as the hype. But most agree Blake's other dunks were spectacular, ironically, minus any gimmicks. Secondly, the other guy's final dunk was also disappointing, so Blake's was still better by comparison.

Finally, the sad fact is Kemp was never truly the superstar he was "supposed" to be. He was very athletic and powerful but never consistently dominant. His whole career he played like a spectacular rookie ALMOST ready to be great but never made it...

...Blake Griffin will be a better player than Shawn Kemp ever was. Mark my words.

Kemp's biggest problem on the court was whenever he tried to dribble the ball.  EPIC FAIL!  As for his biggest problem off the court, we'll save that for another thread.

When one of the greatest dunkers speak you have to listen.....I thought Blake Griffin would win before the competition but after I realized that he definitely did not deserve it... You cant put him up there with Vince carter, dominique, spud, jason richardson, Iguodala( even though he didnt win he had one of the best dunks I have ever seen!!!)

I ageee with Kemp...an exciting player but the dunk was weak. Good to hear from the "Reign man" Shawn Kemp. Could have been one of the best if personal problems didn't get the best of him.

Demetrius Hook Mitchell of Oakland, Ca did this dunk almost 20 years Ago. He played high school ball in the sane era as Gary Payton and Brian Shaw and is an Oakland hoops legend. nothing is original and he did it better than Blake because he was only 5'9. He actually dunked over the main cabin on the car. YouTube it for yourself!

Imagine the same dunk without the car. Would it still look as spectacular to the people who thought that it looked spectacular? That's what Kemp is trying to say. I didn't know if Kemp is qualified enough to comment on Griffin's dunk, but after watching a top 10 Shawn Kemp dunks video, I am more than convinced that he is entitled to his opinion and could probably do better than Blake did even now.

Get rid of the dunk contest. There is no dunk that hasn't been done a hundred times already.
BORING.
And Kemp was right. The car dunk was completely weak.
