Tow Truck Driver Dragged To Death In Colorado Springs During Dispute

Police

LANCE BENZEL   02/23/11 04:13 PM ET   AP

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Authorities say a Colorado tow truck driver has died after he was dragged by a chain for more than a mile behind an SUV he was preparing to tow.

The owner of the towing company says police in Colorado Springs told him the SUV was being towed Wednesday because it was illegally parked.

The Colorado Springs Gazette quoted a witness as saying the victim's legs were entangled in the chain. Police say the man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the driver of the SUV was aware that the man was caught in the chain.

Authorities have not released the name of the tow truck driver or the driver of the SUV.

Police say they are interviewing several persons of interest.

"After the dragging victim came loose, the driver of the sport-utility vehicle turned around in the median on Platte and reversed direction, Noblitt said."

That's just terrible, so sad. I'm sure had a family and some little kid is crying over his daddy right now. Think about that when you make your snide and truley unfunny comments.

The flippant, hateful comments here only reveal the immaturity of the poster. A man doing his job lost his life. A human being died. If you claim to have any humanity, you wouldn't post stuff like that.

Prayers to the tow truck driver and his family. No one deserves to die like this.
Reminds me of the tragedies in Texas, when different men were dragged to their death
in the same way. The SUV driver will live with this one his/her conscience [ behind
bars hopefully ].

Shame on some of you HEARTLESS people.

Probably horrible of me to say but I find it funny that there is no outrage or a single comment on a tow truck driver getting the business..nobody deserves to die for doing there job but I think the hate for the towing industry is universal.

There's not many specifics in the article, but how could someone NOT notice their SUV being hooked up to a tow truck? Sounds like the SUV driver decided to drive away regardless of the risks to the tow operator.

It's not so horrible as it revealing. You can't hide the true nature of your remarks.

Don't call for a tow-truck when your Dodge Neon craps out. Also, pay your tickets. Save your "hate" for the truly despicable.
