USA Networks is hosting an awards ceremony on March 8 that honors 12 of America's cultural trailblazers. Winners include the founders of Foursquare, musician Janelle Monae, director Davis Guggenheim and many more. Achatz is being named "Character Approved" for his contribution's to the food world.
From the award show's site:
With incredible imagination and whimsy, Grant Achatz re-envisions the way we experience food. His award-winning Chicago restaurant, Alinea, transforms food into performance art and is the definition of inspired, inventive cuisine. At the forefront of the molecular gastronomy movement, this Character Approved chef is constantly questioning convention in his pursuit of new dishes and unique flavors. Achatz continues to raise the bar with each of his endeavors, and already has the culinary world eagerly awaiting the opening of his latest venture, Next.
The award comes soon after the release of Achatz's biography, "Life On The Line," which chronicles his battle with cancer and decision to open Alinea. The book will be released March 3.
