Parent Offers Body Parts On Craigslist To Pay Off Child's Student Loans

First Posted: 02/25/11 06:45 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

An anonymous parent in the Boston area recently posted an ad on Craigslist offering to sell their body parts to pay off their child's student loans.

The ad detailed a person 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with "organs in working order." The writer offered blood, plasma, kidneys in place of the $200,000 in education bills.

My Fox Boston reports,

"Use my body for anything legal, or medically experimental," the advert said. "Simply pay off all of my children's student loans ($200,000) and you can use me anyway you need."

The post has since been taken down, but My Fox Boston offered this photo:

Student loans should be an investment in your financial future. Too many people fall into the debt trap of financing the type of education that cannot possibly secure an adequate-paying career.

Parents (and schools) need to teach children from an early age how to make and manage money, and not rely on the hope that "someone" will "give" them a job when they eventually graduate.

Self-reliance and self-determination have become outdated concepts.

The college scam is just as sick as wall street . But until Americans are willing to fight back against the fleecing it will only get worse .

I think too many people are lacking common sense . Private lenders are making you pay for a deferment , or they are not offering deferments at ALL.Oh, and which ever one you choose, the forbearance/deferment is only for 2 years ...I know people who graduated in 2008 and are working a part-time job , or still sitting at home praying someone will give them any type of job ..

Others went back to get a Masters , only to graduate and never leave the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE ..

I can honesty say without any doubts , that I am ready to enter the sex market myself ...This year will make 2 long years of being unemployed after getting a Degree from a top Private College ..My loans are due this month and I have no clue how I am going to make the payments .Desperate times calls for DESPERATE measures ..I disagree with selling your kids , but selling yourself may be an option for now .

I say save your dignity and fight back , the upper-class have taken from us and destroyed our lives i say it's their turn and we show them we aren't serfs but people who will fight for right and each other .

This must be one of those "child centered" households I keep reading about. Wow!

It is HEART BREAKING. Unfortunately, we do not support our college students, many countries HIGHER EDUCATION is free.

You are dead wrong. It's free with a living stipend.

Prostitution sounds like an easier way to make money from selling your body... and you'd still have both kidneys at the end of the day!!! Unless you contract Hepatitis C.

And just how long do you think it would take to save $200K via prostitution? Especially if you're old enough to have a grown child? decades, likely....

A $200k education is pretty high end so this kid must have gotten a medical or law degree. Surely a $200k education means that this person will get a job paying more than enough to cover their own student loans. When it gets to a point where your parents are selling body parts and fluids to pay their grown child's bills it's time to cut the apron strings.

maybe not. Worst case scenario, someone went to a for-profit rip-off college and took a long time to finish-- that could mean no job prospects at all, actually.

Besides, we now have a glut of lawyers and new law grads are not getting hired. It's a problem.

Have you checked tuition at private universities lately? With room and board, you will blow through the $200K mark with a 4-year undergrad degree.
03:20 PM on 02/28/2011
Regardlessof the reason, this is why you can get on a payment plan for loans, or defer if necessary. This is ridiculous

Why doesn't her children offer themselves up? I would
never do that...should have sent them to trade school...it
would have been cheaper than $200,000!
