Party Popcorn

Food52:

This post was inspired by my good friend Naomi, who always has a bowl of homemade popcorn amped up with some great mixture of herbs and spices at the ready when her guests arrive for cocktails. I thought I'd try her technique with a few spice/herb combinations of my own, the first being marjoram -- one of the unsung heroes of the herb world, in my opinion -- and paprika. This is an easy hors d'oeuvre for when you just don't feel like whipping up a tray of canapés or an elegant cheese plate. I've added some other flavor ideas at the end of the recipe, and I'd love to hear your suggestions in the comments section!

I can attest to the success of the fig-blue cheese savouries. They're delicious and easy to prepare. I've served them three times to cocktail guests. I also love the spiced pecans and the devils on hatchback.

Now I feel embarrassed to tell you we're invited to one. A colleague and his wife are debuting their new home theater, and we're invited to an Oscars screening party. We're dressing up in glitziest evening attire, too, to make ourselves feel a part of the night. I'm excited. Cocktails. A fabulous spread of appetizers. Champagne. They're even doing a red carpet and a photographer. I'm looking forward to the night!

By request, I'm making this focaccia again tonight. Really easy. I may need more pans! http://mistermeatball.blogspot.com/2010/10/focaccia-quickie.html

These all look like really yummy appetizers. I'll have to think of a better occasion to make them than watching the Oscars, since 1) I don't have cable anymore and 2) even if I did I wouldn't watch a bunch of plastic movie stars parade around congratulating one another on their plasticity.

I like my popcorn recipe better...pop it with coconut oil, then add butter, a little salt, garlic, and shredded parmesan. Not low-fat by any means, but it's a nice treat.

Chickpeas look great however you really shouldn't use olive oil for that type of cooking.

It has to do with the smoke point - when the oil starts to give off smoke. There are chemical changes that happen when oil/fat is heated. Refined olive oil might be OK but lots of people use extra virgin. I suppose everyone has a different opinion.
