From Inhabitat:

If you'd like to cross treetop dining off of your bucket list, check out the Redwoods Treehouse near Auckland, New Zealand. This wonderland of cocoons and walkways built from sustainably-harvested pine and poplar slats and locally-milled redwood balustrading is about as amazing as lofty eateries come. Daytime diners can expect to be shined on by natural light as they dine 40 meters above the ground.

We first showcased this incredible treehouse restaurant years ago while it was still in its design phase, and now we're thrilled to bring you pictures of the completed structure! The Redwoods Treehouse near Auckland, New Zealand is a wonderland of cocoons and walkways built in a redwood forest out of sustainably-harvested pine and poplar slats and locally-milled redwood balustrading. Natural light shines through the slats into the restaurant interior located 40 meters above the ground. Since its completion the treehouse has claimed multiple honors and awards.

So what do you need? Besides a miracle.

I think we do the trees a great favor when we leave them alone.

They have redwoods in New Zealand? News to me. Don't tell the lumber companies!

Article say its 40 meters ( 120 plus feet) off the ground? It looks maybe 15 ft high.

In the full length photo, one is fooled by perspective into thinking it is not as high as advertised. Once you realise the actual size of the structure, and the size of the tree, the height above ground becomes more obvious. These trees in NZ grow to as much as 69 metres tall.

Trees are better left as restaurants for birds and squirrels, not people.

They got it nearly right, though. The tree is a Australian mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans).

once they implied that east timor was in australia. i think the eds might have flunked out of geography.

I hate wedding videos when they all jump up and down and then fall through the floor. I can just see this now.

Now who are you jiving with that cosmik debris?

'Tis a fair-weather venue, this is why they have folding chairs as calicanuck (below) pointed out. I do like the architectural style that was used and it makes me want to go to New Zealand to see it.

I dunno, Tom. Sometimes you have to pimp a few trees to get more people to appreciate them. It's like movies about whales and penguins. A lot of people don't care unless it's cute.
