U.S. Asks Banks To Scrutinize Libya Transactions

Libya

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Treasury has told American banks to closely monitor transactions that may be related to unrest in Libya for any possible signs that state assets were being misappropriated.

The advisory issued late Thursday by the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network stopped short of freezing assets or imposing other financial sanctions on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi or other senior officials in his regime.

Uhm hello, can I ask someone to scrutinize US Transactions. Cuz you know, i have a feeling that the US has been in Libya for quite some time now and well, kinda supported Moammar and while we are there, can we also go over the books and see how much taxpayer money was burnt in the process. i kinda get the feeling its alot of money.

Just askin.

Maybe with all that there is going on in the Middle East now there may be a chance for me to make a few bucks out of all these problems. That's right. I think I'll write the first book. "Dictators For Dummies" Don't steal too much. Do something nice for your people once and a while and don't stick around too long. Well its just a start.

Lybia is already on the watch list.

Every transaction should already be scrutinized by 'know your customer' regs.

Dear, Us Treasury:
Unless you regulate banks' activities overall and set ground rules on the banking system, you cannot control how they will act in specific situations.
