In the battle for Best Supporting Actor, "The Fighter" star Christian Bale came out on top.

Bale dropped weight to the point of emaciation to play the frenetic drug addict Dicky Ecklund, a former boxer hanging on to his past glory. As he helps his brother, Mickey Ward, train for a championship boxing match, we see a transformation in Ecklund, but Bale's brilliance reigns throughout.
