Larry Crowne: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts In New Comedy

First Posted: 03/01/11 08:03 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Hanks Roberts

They owned the 90's and each helped redefine the romantic comedy. Now, they're working their magic together.

Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts star in the upcoming film "Larry Crowne," set to be released this summer. It's about a man named Larry Crowne (well, naturally), living a solid middle class life until the recession steals away his job, prompting him to go back to his local junior college. Not only does he meet interesting new people to befriend and learn from, he meets his teacher, played by Julia Roberts.

Guess what happens. (Hint: Hanks says they make out).

The pairing is a no brainer; they starred together in 2007's "Charlie Wilson's War," and have mastered the romcom genre -- their classics include Roberts's "Pretty Woman" and Hanks's "Sleepless In Seattle".

Take a look at the this clip, shown during Jimmy Kimmel's Oscars show, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Not that I ever considered Charlie Wilson's War to be about
any chemistry, if there were any, it was between Tom Hanks
and Amy Adams! I thought they made a great team, with
some funny lines, etc. in a not so funny topic. As far
as Ms. Roberts, in that film all I could think of in her
scenes is that she is acting to the camera, not to her
fellow actors. Not so for Ms. Adams who I really have
taken a liking to as an actress, especially in her
comedic roles, like Drop Dead Gorgeous. And
Mr. Hanks, I'd be hard pressed to think of any
film I've not enjoyed him in!

JR and TH were great in Charlie Wilson's War. Now, I don't really like Mrs. Roberts but acting with Mr. Hanks seems to make her better. Having been forced to watch Eat, Pray, Love with my wife (didn't like), this just might be a movie my wife and I would enjoy watching together.

Didn't they bomb when paired in Charlie Wilson's War just three years ago?

Even in a movie, we want Good Guy Hanks to be paired with someone better than Mean Girl Roberts.

Tom is hard not to like but Julia makes it just way too easier to just say no to this movie. I am so over her. She is like Meg Ryan.. they were awesome int he day but lost their magic touch somewhere along the way.

Looking forward to this film!

I love Tom Hanks! I've seen nearly all his films, and will definitely see this. It's got a cool, diverse cast.

Awesome! Reminds me a bit of Community. And I can relate a bit since I go to junior college as well.

I think it's impossible to say anything bad about Tom Hanks. He seems like the nicest guy in Hollywood.

Ahhh, two people who make me remember a time when I actually enjoyed going to the movies once in a while. Yeah, I'll probably check it out. I like Julia -- depending on the vehicle -- and Tom's always going to have my heart for Sleepless In Seattle, A League of Their Own, F. Gump, That Thing You Do, Philadelphia, Apollo 13, etc. Heck, if I'm honest, he had me at Bosom Buddies.

To respond to your other post to me, I don't dislike Julia because she overacted a diabetic reaction (which I'm SURE this person in one time in her life saw one exactly like that -- whatever), I dislike her because she's overrated, overpaid and laughs like a seal.

Why is SHE overpaid but Ford, Cruise and Crowe are not? She is paid what she gets because she brings in the paying audience. If she were bad, she wouldn't now would she?

About Roberts...
When I responded to your post I hadn't yet stumbled on the others you'd written that make it abundantly clear your feelings for Roberts aren't based on one scene. If I'd seen those posts I'd have understood and would never have responded.

Regarding diabetes...
My mother fought cancer and struggled with diabetes -- having some truly awful reactions, during some of which I had a front-row seat and helped her recover. I've worked for years with folks who have various developmental disabilities and a myriad medical issues, diabetes being just one. Between my personal life and my professional experiences, I've seen eerily similar reactions to that in the movie, and I've seen a majority that were far more subtle. Huge spectrum. I guess it's easy -- and maybe somehow rewarding -- to accuse others of lying, but I just can't fathom how it helps expand one's mind to new ideas.

May you live a Julia Roberts-free life and find peace and happiness.

Really? Where is your great success?? Oh, 2 fanner here posting on Huffpo for entertainment.. pretty lame.
BTW, you must not have ever been around horses, as for one thing they do NOT laugh, and their neighing does not sound like her in the slightest.

That actually looks not terrible.
12:34 PM on 03/01/2011
Of course not. Larry Crowne is directed and written by Tom Hanks, so it should be great.

How many times does Julia laugh?
09:37 AM on 03/01/2011
So one character is unemployed and the other character is a teacher, which means she's underpaid. But they're both being played by mega-millionaires. Nice.
12:35 PM on 03/01/2011
have you ever heard of acting? nearly all well known film actors are millionaires, and yet they still manage to play people who aren't millionaires.
