Marni Yang Murder Trial Makeover? Defendant Wants Hair Cut And Dyed, Makeup Applied

Murder Trial Makeover?

Former Bears player Shaun Gayle and his long-time girlfriend Rhoni Reuter had reportedly named the baby they were expecting when unborn Skylar Reyne and her mother were both killed in a shooting on October 4, 2007.

Prosecutors argue that Marni Yang committed the crime because she was jealous of the relationship between Gayle and Reuter, and her trial began Tuesday.

On Monday, Yang's lawyers spent the day trying to get the trial put on hold so Yang could get a makeover, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Defense attorney William Hedrick argued to Judge Christopher Stride that his client "looks frankly like a crazy woman," according to the Tribune. Since part of his argument is that Yang and Gayle had a relationship on the side -- a claim that Gayle has repeatedly denied -- Hedrick contends that it is important that she not look so haggard.

According to the ABA Journal, Hedrick is seeking a haircut for Yang, whose hair now reaches down to her back, and to add some coloring to her graying hair. He is also hoping that Yang be allowed to wear make-up in the courtroom.

Judge Stride wasn't having it.

"If having gray hair means you are crazy, then I am the craziest person in this court," he said according to the ABA, ruling that the make-over was not to be allowed. But the defense is hoping to appeal that ruling to the Illinois Supreme Court.

Stride also ruled in the prosecution's favor in a number of other pre-trial motions, including allowing grisly crime-scene photos to be shown to the jury and dismissing claims of a strained relationship between Gayle and Reuter as too speculative, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
