National Underwear Day: Brazilian Models Celebrate With Lacy March (PHOTOS)

BRASILIA, Brazil - Carnival is still a few days away, but some Brazilians are already strutting through the streets wearing next to nothing.

About 25 models paraded in their skivvies through a busy district in Brasilia on Tuesday to mark National Underwear Day.

Women in lingerie, thigh-high stockings and stiletto heels mingled with men wearing boxers, briefs and stylish top hats.

Bystanders gawked and took photos, bus drivers abandoned their vehicles and a growing crowd followed the models from a mall to a bus station.

The parade of undergarments is organized by a fashion website and inspired by a similar event in New York.

Organizers say it's meant to promote Brazil's underwear manufacturing industry.

I am brazilian, living in Brazil and no... We do not see scenes like that everyday, it's just a very overused stereotype. But yeah, Carnaval begins today...

Not a coincidence at all. That are many stories for the origin of the word... one widely accepted is "Carrum navalis", meaning "naval cars". Another widely accepted theory is "Carne vale", meaning "Goodbye flesh", a last farewell to the flesh (human, of course), before the religious festivities/penitences.
It's very interesting. :)

F&F I agree with your statement. I brought in the new year in Ubatuba which is away from the tourists beaten path and learned that we are being cheated of the real Brasil. Brasileiros are contagiously and incredibly generous. That the are also striking is an added bonus, I just wish more people knew the real Brasil.
