Designer Azzedine Alaia sat down with Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele for Interview's March issue. Carlyne who de what? You've definitely seen the stylist's work if you've picked up any major fashion magazine since 1988, when De Dudzeele styled the first issue of Anna Wintour's Vogue. She talked about growing up in Saint Tropez, her type of girl and whether stylists should be in the spotlight.

On what she wore growing up:
Fashion was in my head, but I was not wearing fashion. I was in jeans, T-shirts, barefoot, most of the time. "Fashion" was not foremost in my mind. Style just came naturally. It was simple. This is what chic is, it is natural. For me, the chicest thing in the world is la simplicite. J'adore!On girls whose looks match her vision:
Girls like Naomi [Campbell], Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Kirsten McMenamy. For me, they are my real sources of inspiration. Many times, models look divine when they arrive at the studio. Sometimes, after hair, makeup, and fashion, they don't look fresh and divine anymore.On what she brings to fashion:
I don't follow trends. I interpret fashion and I create my own story. I conjure up the image of the girl. I always have done it and I always will! C'est tout ce que j'aime! Ca me rend dingue!On the current celebration of stylist:
Stylists should remain behind the scenes. A great stylist, like a great designer, lets the work speak for itself.On street style and inspiration:
What occurs in the street fascinates me...If you have personal style, you can mix anything and be the chicest person in the world. Chic is not about money. It's all about trafficotage! In France, we call it "avoir du chien."
