Gayle King House

Oprah's influence can be seen on the ceilings of Gayle King's home.

The editor-at-large of O Magazine showed off her $7 million Penthouse on East 57th street on the "Nate Berkus Show"

King provided some insights into her interior design decisions for her 2,530-square-foot apartment.

She decided to have the ceilings in each room painted a different color, because that's what Oprah says to do. King also pointed her the custom wallpaper in her kitchen called "Harlem Toile."

Her personality and attitude seems very much like Oprah's. When Oprah does it, it works, it's appropriate, when Gayle does it, not so great. Oprah made the fortune, not Gayle.

OK, so let's all just decorate our places like we want. OK? Sounds like a plan.

Ms. King needs to get her professional "house" in order before she devotes this much time and money to her "home".

The magazine she oversees for Oprah is in tragic decline and repeatedly exhibits shocking degrees of a lack of professionalism and desperately needs a coherent mind to step in and start making sense.

The Network that she and Oprah have decided to launch is foundering without Oprah's show.

Don't spread yourself too thin Gayle. Your apartment is nice, but your professional house is crumbling. Especially the one at 56th and 9th.

The house is snooze but your honestly going to begrudge someone a favorite color? Obviously not too many sunny personalities around here.
08:46 AM on 03/04/2011
It's not about begrudging her a favorite color -- it's about how many times she mentioned her favorite color. BTW, I love yellow.

And there is something wrong with saying your favorite color as many times as Gayle did? Talk about a petty criticism....

Do you think she likes yellow?
7 million for that?

Because I don't cum whenever someone says Okrah's name, I'm a 'hater' ?

Are you a GUY - or a poosie that watches her every day and cheers her every self-serving move ?

Sweetness: they may be Louboutins, but YELLOW? With that dress?

Oh, and the wallpaper in the kitchen is awful.

How about the hanging dishes. LOL

What's her favorite color? :)

The amount of space in her place is really wonderful. So she really has No excuse to have couches blocking windows (not that anyone in any sized place can be excused for that mistake!).
12:54 AM on 03/04/2011
I know a rich gal who faced the water and her 'decorator' had seating built under the windows, facing the stairs to the second floor.
Everyone is just soooooo creative.
08:44 AM on 03/04/2011
:) Sounds like a hostile decorator!

One wishes that while this 'decorator' was advising her about frame colors, he would have also mentioned that the arrangement of the framed photos is dysfunctional, entirely off.

For only one thing, don't place photos near the ceiling where no one can see them.

However, I did like her yellow shoes w/her pink dress :)

It also appears to be a long, narrow room with her media center on the opposite wall (not optimal due to reflection), so having her sofa under the window makes sense.

However, if you're a reader, the greatest thing is to have your sofa or chairs with their backs to a large window. Nothing beats reading in natural light (or knitting/crocheting/doing needlepoint, etc).
11:43 AM on 03/04/2011
I'm a reader and blocking windows w/furniture is both unnecessary and unattractive.

It's a substantial design flaw.
