A very upset panel of "American Idol" judges said goodbye to Oak Forest's Chris Medina last month, but that has not stopped the local musician from pursuing his dreams.
Medina's fiancée Juliana Ramos suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident just two months before their wedding, leaving her in a wheelchair. Medina has spent nearly two years caring for her. His story touched fans and judges alike, leading Jennifer Lopez to break down in tears when voting him off the show.
Since he left "Idol," Medina's single "What Are Words" soared to No. 24 on the iTunes top 200 charts. He has also appeared on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Good Morning America" and on Thursday, he spoke with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show--where he got a big surprise.
Medina talked to Seacrest about Ramos' accident, and his fears in making their story public. (Scroll down for video)
"A lot of people, like you said, were touched by the story," Seacrest told Medina on air. "There's a group specifically that wanted me to let you know they want to make a donation to the organization ... Proactiv would like to donate $35,000 to the foundation for Juliana."
Medina teared up, and said "That's so awesome" before actor Topher Grace and filmmaker Ryan Kavanaugh walked into the studio to meet him--and matched the Guthy-Renker (makers of Proactiv) donation.
