Wallis Simpson Auction: Duchess of Windsor's Belongings Up For Sale

Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/04/11 03:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Wallis Simpson's lingerie, handbags, and luggage are being auctioned off in London on March 17, and we have the pictures.

Perhaps the most famous divorcée in British history, Wallis--later, The Duchess of Windsor--was notorious for her affair with King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry her.

Their story was an integral part of The King's Speech, which garnered four Academy Awards last week, including Best Picture.

Proceeds from the auction, held by Kerry Taylor Auctioneers, will be donated to the Dodi International Charitable Foundation, which benefits children in need of medical care.

Click through our picks from the collection and tell us what you think--would you bid for a piece of history?

Look at her wiki page, a person who is be better forgotten. She told an American journalist that she couldn't say she felt sorry for the British when they were being bombed in WWII, and her view of her Bahamian subjects are especially revolting. She was good friends with the Mosleys too. Why would anyone want anything of hers.

Her priorities, sexy nightgowns to entice, and purses in which to keep the fortune she managed to access through wearing the nightgowns, too perfect!! Also, a make up bag to enhance her not so beautiful appearance.

More dazzling than these mere trinkets were the jewels given her by The Duke of Windsor--returned to the Crown some time between his death and her own. Her least prized possession, the one that no one wanted back, was The Duke.

The jewels were--and are--wonderful. Some amazing Cartier pieces, especially.
