Rachel Maddow Extremely Weirded Out By George Will Column On Mike Huckabee (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow found herself momentarily speechless on her Friday show, due to an unexpectedly strange column about Mike Huckabee's recent controversies by conservative George Will.

Maddow was busy conducting her first ever instant viewer poll, centered on the question, "what's more embarrassing?" She first talked about Huckabee's recent statements that President Obama grew up in Kenya, and his comment that Natalie Portman's very public pregnancy was "glamori[zing]" the usually tragic situation of giving birth while not married.

Maddow called these remarks a "desperate" attempt by Huckabee to sell books. She then started to read Will's upcoming syndicated column, a preview of which appeared on Politico on Friday.

"[S]ensible Americans ... must ... be detecting vibrations of weirdness emanating from people associated with the party," Will wrote. " ... The most recent vibrator is Mike Huckabee," Try as she might, Maddow could not read the word "vibrator." She paused for several seconds while the word stayed on the screen.

"Uh...I don't think I can say that out loud," she said. She then made Will's use of the word one of the options for her "most embarrassing" poll. (Later in the show, it was revealed that 25% of Maddow's viewers thought Will's use of "vibrator" was the most embarrassing out of the three options.)

George Will has been spreading his dispeptic brand of flowery, pompous, clueless conservatism so long he has become a laughingstock. I suspect Rachael was not being squeamish at all, merely using that demeanor mechanism to make the point even more obvious and get everyone talking more about it. In that, she has been quite successful.

In a rational world, liberals and Dems might see this column as significant—and as potentially helpful. Given Will’s status on the right, this column could be a strong tool with which to bat vile nonsense down. But you didn’t hear any such judgment expressed if you watched Friday’s sad Maddow show. On that program, Will’s column became the latest excuse for Maddow to clown and behave like a child, vamping in the phoniest ways and begging us rubes to adore her.

Maddow staged one of her silly-girl acts, helping us see how special she is. It would be hard to be much dumber—or to be a bigger fake.

Maddow was silly and inappropriate on this one. I'm tired of the breathless girl act and prefer when she goes with focused, serious journalism. Her cutesy quips tend to undermine the good reporting and analysis she does. It will be nice when she has the confidence to be as serious as her subjects all the time and can dispense with the silliness.

I tend to agree. It's a bit middle school'ish. She does this sometimes and it's unnecessary. She's to smart for this and it is a distraction. The fact that folks are writing about her silliness rather than the content of her story illustrates this very issue.

I kinda wish she would make up her mind and decide if she wants to be a brilliant journalist (and she is capable of just that) or just the other side of the O'Reilly coin. I'm tiring of agenda driven journalism (on both sides). It gets boring after awhile.

What Ms. Maddow fails to take into account is that George Will is a grownup. I recall that Ms. Maddow acted like a grade school child over the compound noun "tea bag."

The word "vibrator" predates the woman's electro-mechanical personal stimulation appliance by about a hundred years. When I was in high school, I preferred Vibrator brand reeds for my saxophone. My very straight-laced 92 year old mom refers to her back massage device as a vibrator. Unlike Ms. Maddow, I do not giggle.
