Incredible Views Of Seattle, The Emerald City (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/05/11 04:11 PM ET   Updated: 11/30/11 03:48 PM ET

Joel and Jessie Edwards put together this visual postcard as an ode to a city they must hold dear. While Seattle may get a bad rap for being dreary and rainy, the video shows that the sun shines quite brightly in the Emerald City.

The mini-film highlights famous sights from around the town, including the Space Needle (the movie makers show it in still and live form) which soars over the skyline, as well as charming views of the city's waterfront in different seasons. The soundtrack comes courtesy of Eugene, Oregon native Mat Kearney, which only serves to add to the short film's cinematic effect.

Nice pix of the area and the skyline but not much of the city itself. I wanted to see what it looks like IN Seattle, not looking at it from the water - we all know that view. nice but ultimately disappointing.

No doubt. This would be better described as images of the Puget Sound.

While drinking in a bar, I heard the same joke from 2 native Seattleites. What's the difference between Seattle and Yogurt?....
Yogurt has an active culture.

I lived there for 11 years. I moved back to San Diego because I suffered from SAD. Rain, rain and more rain.

Ok, I have call BS on this one. I lived in Seattle for 13 yrs & I can tell you this: yes, the area is beautiful, and summers can be stunning...BUT...winters are months of wet, grey, cold torture. I remember one year it rained 91 consecutive days...I started counting after it had rained for five days. It doesn't rain all day, but it's grey, and the sky is like a lid.

And don't get me started about the people. Making true friends is quite difficult; people in Seattle are very cliquish and lack a spark of humor, certainly about themselves. They tend to be so PC and are masters of indirect, insincere "communication".

Also, large parts of this vid are of the general area, not Seattle proper. Sorry, but I can't let this hogwash go unanswered.

I second these comments.

Why is this video on HP? Are the videographers/musicians relatives of someone at HP?

It's hard to convery sarcasm online at times. I was trying to paint an ugly picture to prevent more people from moving here.

Your tone really isn't necessary and not appropriate for the context in which my comments were made.

Beautiful video - it captures much of what is beautiful about Seattle and manages to leave out the mountains that have been clear cut on virtually every side, the Sound which you were looking at and Lake Union are extraordinarily polluted and have everything from huge fishing nets to fences, dead bodies and just plain muck, the areas of the city that used to have their own particular character and charm which have almost totally been bulldozed and replaced by high-rise condos, strip malls, and business parks. The condos are nice - they keep the riffraff out by charging out-of-sight rent, and oh yeah, they completely leveled the south end of Lake Union, which did have many areas where low-income people could live, old buildings that were sturdy and had personality, and interesting little funky shops. They cleared it out because one of our famous multibillionaires wanted to build fancy condos and fancy business parks. Every area that I can think of that once had little parks, and quiet walkways with locally owned businesses, and access to the waterfront are all gone.

My advice, if you're thinking of moving here, you should have lots and lots of money because it has one of the highest costs of living in the U.S. and it's getting worse. I've lived here for over sixty years and have never seen so much ripping apart of people's lives happen so quickly.

title sounded great. I don't see anything incredible in this video, just the typical pretty shots of many cities.

Don't listen to the other commenter, you're not jaded. Having lived there for most of my adult life, I can tell they stayed within about a 1/2 mile of the Puget Sound and shot multiple angles of the same stuff. There is so much, much more to that city than the boats and skyline views of the Sound.

I agree with Paris -- "this video really does not capture much of the natural beauty of this city".

For all the praise introducing the video, I was surprised to see how somber the cinematography was, with so many shots of dusk-darkened hills and shorelines -- and the black-and white and relatively colorless nighttime city-lights shots didn't improve the impression of Seattle as beautiful as the rare full daylight shots in the video did.

(I lived in Seattle while going to college, and have lived in the Greater Seattle/western Washington area for 50 years)

Lived in Seattle several years while attending UW. Yes it does rain a lot-I liked that- and the contrast made for an even more breathtaking setting on one of those crystal clear days-everywhere you turn, the cascades, olympics Mt.Baker, Rainier.

This video really does not capture much of the natural beauty of this city.

I don't get all of the hate with the weather but I know that's mostly a personal thing. I enjoy overcast skies, drizzle and rain. Can't wait to move back in December after being gone for 5 1/2 years!

SAD: Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I never even realized I had it until I finally left the Puget Sound area after 40 years. Now I realize my family had it, too. I'll never go back.
