As an avid reader, I'm sorry to see the indy bookstore fading fast. But I do love my Kindle and the ease of shopping for books with it and downloading them instantly and not having to ask for a clerk's help and searching through racks of books. But I do miss the intimacy of the experience.

On the other hand, books are nasty to lug around when you move to a new place. They gather dust, you don't want to toss them, but you'll probably never re-read them, etc. They're kind of an albatross about the neck.

I'm sure many regretted the passing of horse-drawn vehicles and all the supporting goods and services that went along with them. Now we have smelly cars that burn valuable gasoline, but no one misses all that manure.

Every time another book shop closes, we close the door on opportunities for readers to browse and select good literature, and not be solely guided by highly promoted books and best seller lists.

I hate to say it, but find browsing through Amazon or ABE Books easier and more pleasurable.
