Times Square Rally Opposing Muslim 'Radicalization' Hearings (VIDEO)

Muslim Hearings Protest

First Posted: 03/09/11 12:23 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

On Sunday March 6, opponents of upcoming Congressional hearings on the "radicalization" of Muslim Americans gathered in Times Square for a rally called "Faith Under Fire, Today I Am a Muslim Too."

The rally featured appearances by Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, Russell Simmons, Rabbi Marc Schneier, Rev. Dr. Katharine R. Henderson and other leaders in interfaith relations. A competing rally was also organized by supporters of Rep. Peter King and the Muslim "radicalization" hearings.

Of course nobody told me about the rally. I would have been there to meet Meet Russell Simmons and to check out all the Muslim girls. But no... Not so much as a tweet about this reached me.

Oh I WISH I could fan you again. That will never happen because the Christianists would start screaming "persecution!".

So happy that so many came out in support of them, we are a great nation with great people. We do have our own Radicals who are now more vocal because they have elected officials on their side, who are openly spreading hate, every day.

I come from a Christian background and having that past I have many loose connections with Christians today (family, friends, etc). It never ceases to amaze me how afraid and hostile Christians have become toward muslims. The email spam and chains that I recieve on a daily basis are so (for lack of a better word) repulsive. Hate and Fear do nothing but breed more hate and fear. I have had the chance to respond to many of the authors of these chains only to get an extremely close minded and unintelligent response. I have come to the conclusion that people just listen to the loadest shouting... unfortunately its usually uneducated fools that do the most yelling.

What most Christians dont realize is that their religion is equally feared with a horribly violent history.

*Disclaimer* I am agnostic...

i get the emails things from my family. i delete them without even reading them. almost all of of my family hate anything to do with Islam, yet they know absolutely nothing about it, save what they hear on the television.
there is reason to be fearful, but of the terrorists, not our fellow americans.

It is amazing that a single Religious practice (Islam) can garner so much willful ignorance and hatred. Understand the complexities of any issue you have a definitive opinion.

Muslims sit on top of a huge percentage of the world's fossil fuel and mineral resources. Demonizing them is a tactic to make it acceptable to invade Muslim countries, to "neutralize the threat". Islamophobes are nothing more than stooges for Chevron Oil and BHP Billiton.

Right-wing politicians have successfully made their supporters fearful of Muslims. So long as there's something to be feared, the public can be distracted from the real problems.
Why aren't there any congressional hearings for the executives at big banks that led us so close to a depression? Why aren't there any congressional hearings on the politicians who supported invading Iraq on false intelligence? Surely invading a country unprovoked would make America less safe than these allegedly "uncooperative" American Muslim leaders could.

Well a few Muslims brought a lot of that on themselves fighting for freedom and prosperity from Western Involvement in their countries. Well they did not win that battle. But they have yet to lose any military battle yet, right?

Many year ago America need workers for a boom economy. Today we do not have a booming economy. We have enough unemployed people. Many more educated that are given credit. It was that Freedom Fry Country that talked about America taking all the undesirables they and the world did not need or want.
