The LA Times reports that Groucho Marx's former home, which went on the market last August for $6.995 million, has just sold for $5.8 million. Sally Forster Jones represented the buyer, and she and Daniel M. Weiser of Coldwell Banker's Beverly Hills East had the listing. From our first post on the property:
"The original listing describes the Spanish estate as 'grand and emotional,' with over 6,000 square feet of living space on a half-acre of land. The home has eight bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths, and is palatial enough to have its own little elevator."
The listing also mentions fruit trees and a pool in the backyard, as well as the fact that the home has been in the same family for about fifty years. Groucho Marx had lived in the estate with both his second wife, Kay Gorcey Marx, and his third wife, Eden Hartford. It went on the market around the 33rd anniversary of his death at Cedar-Sinai hospital in 1977.
