Daylight Savings Time 2011: Don't Forget To Set Your Clocks

Daylight Savings Time 2011

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/12/11 04:57 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- It's the weekend to spring ahead to daylight saving time.

For one night, there's the prospect of 60 fewer minutes of shut-eye, but ahead are many months with an extra hour of evening sunlight.

The official change was at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday.

Not everyone in the U.S. makes the switch from standard time. The exceptions are Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas.

Standard time returns Nov. 6.

NOTE: The technical term for the occasion is daylight saving time, not daylight savings time.

I wish they'd just come up with one time, and stop messing with it. Only God should be allowed to change the time.

Um, I'm guessing that God created Daylight Saving Time, too.

I didn't know you could even save daylight at all, I thought once it was gone, it was gone. Is this a new thing, can you put it in a Ball jar? I've heard of people putting moonshine in a ball jar, maybe this daylight is a related product? Whatever it is, don't spill it, and don't drink and drive.

How does O'Reilly adjust his sundial to the new time that "the sun comes up and the sun goes down"?
02:18 PM on 03/13/2011
Why can't we quit our obsession with trying to change nature, climate..first we create clocks and now we are not happy with it so we have to change it again. Just let clock run the way we started, one hour is not saving anyone anything. I find this time change very unnecessary. It is just our way of showing that we can change things, till the earth shakes us off of herself.

I never wear a watch, but I always know what time it is, even without looking at my cellphone, saves a LOT of time, let me tell you. What time is it, you say? Time to buy a watch! Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Frankly, as far as i am concerned , having this article on here today doesn't make any sense at all.
I t made sense YESTERDAY, before DST went into effect, but TODAY??. If you didn't set your clocks ahead last night your late, why keep this article up after the fact??

So i still don't get it. How do you "add" daylight by advancing a clock?!

You don't add daylight. Just change the clock so it reads later when it is already light. So, last night, it got dark at about 6 p.m. around these parts. This evening, when it gets dark, the clock will read about 7 p.m. Of course, that means the time on the clock was an hour later when the sun came up.

So, it's really not adding daylight (impossible) just changing what the clock says.

Ok..but why? Why change what the clock says? Here in Puerto Rico its light out at 7pm in the summer and dark out at 7pm in December. But we don't change the clock. Why change your clocks?

We should go back to changing clocks at the beginning of April and end of October. From what I hear there is no clear agreement that we really save energy. Besides, now we're out of sink with the rest of the world until they change and my hard wired clocks

I don't care if it saves energy, I like daylight saving time better. The more of it the better. Of course, I don't usually wake up before 10 am anyway.
