VIENNA, March 12 (Reuters) - About 140,000 people have so far been evacuated from areas near two Japanese nuclear power plants after Friday's earthquake, the U.N. atomic watchdog said in a statement citing information from Japanese authorities.

"Evacuations around both affected nuclear plants have begun," the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said.

In a 20-km radius around Fukushima Daiichi an estimated 110,000 people have been evacuated. In a 10-km radius around Fukushima Daini about 30,000 people have been evacuated.

"Full evacuation measures have not been completed," it said. (Reporting by Fredrik Dahl)

It's a very serious time for Japan. They've even made a carton to explain it to young kids "Nuclear Reactor Boy has a tummy ache"

Am so sorry they have this to contend with as well. I am keeping a hopeful attitude that they will resolve it without meltdown.

Hey! Nuculear power is safe, and clean and cheap. Plus, my rich friends made a lot of money off of the govment subsidies to create them, and will make even more if we subsidize more new nuculear plants. Benefiting the rich is important, you see, because then they will trickle on the poor.

that depends if you like breathing clean air, or if you are one of those people who actually care about what happens to your grandchildren and their grandchildren. It is obvious though the plants should not be near a major population center, that should be common sense. From a long term pollution stand point nuclear power is much safer for the planet and the people on the planet in the long run.

rooftop solar, offshore wind and waste bio char can supply all the energy we need. clean safe, cheaper, forever, carbon negative, negative land use, and 100% within 15 years.

Why are wasting time and money on dangerous nukes and the last few drops of oil?

Because Rahm and Axelrod are lobbyists for the Nuclear power industry, and probably the fossil industries too.
