Bloomberg Doesn't Want Police Commissioner Ray Kelly To Head FBI
Mayor Bloomberg wants his police commissioner to stay right where he is.
New York's senior Senator, Chuck Schumer, suggested that NYPD boss Ray Kelly take over as Director of the FBI this fall.
Current FBI head, Robert Muller, plans to step down after his ten-year term ends this September.
"Ray Kelly served his time in Washington and did a great job there," Bloomberg said. "I, for one, would like him...expect him to stay for the next 1,023 days."
Kelly was the undersecretary for enforcement at the Department of the treasury from 1996 to 1998. He was also the commissioner of the US Customs Service from 1998 to 2001.
Bloomberg mentioned low crime rates and effective counter-terrorism as reasons why he'd like to see Kelly serve out his term.
