Just finished it and it's great. The man can write there is no denying that. I just hope people listen to what he has to say and not behave the way they would in his book!

What a great old Idea!
James should ask Tony Hendra if he can borrow the original cover artwork from "The Messiah of Morris Ave”.
Considering he stole everything else.
More proof James is a sham! Reason he did not use publishing house is because they have already published this book.

I know nothing about this guy and I really dont care. But the book sounds entertaining. Based on how much everyone seems to hate him..I have a feeling that if it was a movie made by anyone else I think more people would actually see it.

He wrote a confessional supposedly true story book about his struggle with drug abuse and it turned out later that he essentially made it all up.

Is Frey actually writing this book, or will one of his sweatshop authors take up the pen? This guy is one of the worst people in publishing.

A controversial work of fiction on Jesus?

Other works of fiction have been written. There was Lamb by Christopher Moore, while not controversial, it was a hilarious book. Just saying.

Norman Mailer also wrote a novel that was a fictional account of the life of Jesus. I tried reading it but as with most of Mailer's writing I just couldn't get into it.

I think we're too quick to be offended, too slow to have nuanced discussions.

The idea sounds intriguing but I have no respect for Frey. Anyone who would commit the kind of literary fraud that he did doesn't deserve another chance IMO.

I was not defending Frey. I feel the way you do. My issue is with the article writers expecting a Pavlovian response to the book synopsis.

Oooooh, he's so edgy!

Hey Frey, write it about Mohammed and I'll be impressed. You and Rushdie can share a flat. Actually, that sounds like an even better book concept, kind of a wacky "The Odd Couple", with a classic literary intellectual and a fallen capatilist wunderkind, both under threat of Fatwah. I should copyright that before Frey rips it off.

Please don't hold back... Seriously though, I saw an interview he gave to a French channel not too long ago and he came across as rather unlikeable and full of himself.

hehe, is it that obvious I dislike him?

His latest project is plotting book series with the intention of having them written by young authors for a few hundred dollars and no credit on the book, which can be sold as young adult-movie properties. They sign over all rights to him.

The recent crap-fest "I am number four" was his first cynical assault on good taste, with more to come.

Silly or incomprehensible? If the talking snake story is silly, then the story shouldn't even exist. But if the story is incomprehensible, maybe we should try to comprehend it. Do a search: The First Scandal. Then click twice.

Ben (Frey's Messiah) tells followers that the Bible is "antiquated," saying, "The Bible was written 2,000 years ago. The world is a different place now. Stories that had meaning then are meaningless now . . those books are dead."

As a Christian I have to agree a lot of the agricultural parables are quite difficult for people in today's society. Have you ever had salt that lost its saltiness and you had to throw out the shaker?

How do we deal with the Garden of Eden story, an IQ boosting apple and a talking snake? Laugh it off as some sort of parable? Indeed, the Bible forces us to overlook the parts that are just silly, or incomprehensible.

It's been 2000 years. It certainly wouldn't hurt for Jesus to show up again and clarify things, just as he clarified "the Law and the Prophets" for the Jews of that era.

But not to wish for such things, as the bible itself states it shall be a "fearful day" when the Lord returns. Wars and rumors of wars, nuclear reactors melting down, people hating one another....

Peace, Shalom. May the Lord be with you.
