Lady Gaga, Linkin Park And Other Celebs Help Japan, Call On Fans For Support

Help Japan

First Posted: 03/14/11 04:52 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

With the crisis in Japan still unfolding, celebrities the world over have encouraged their fans to take action and help them collect relief funds.

The NY Daily News reports that Lady Gaga designed a bracelet with the words "We Pray For Japan" printed in both English and Japanese. Priced at $5 each, all proceeds will be donated to relief funds.

CNN reports that Gaga also asked fans to support the Citizen Effect relief campaign by Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda has also designed merchandise to be sold for relief funds. Music For Relief, a network of artists and music fans devoted to relief efforts, partnered with Shinoda to produce T-shirts to be sold for the cause. Shinoda is currently collecting votes on his website, asking fans to select which version of his design should be printed.

Charlie Sheen has announced that some of the revenue from his upcoming live shows will be donated to help Japan. His website says that $1 of every ticket sold for "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option Show" will be donated to the Red Cross Japanese Earthquake Relief Fund.

Katy Perry appealed to her fans via Twitter, saying:

"Imagine... if we ALL texted REDCROSS to 90999 we'd have raised over 60million dollars for #JAPAN REFLIEF! BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE! BE!"

Many other celebs also have turned to Twitter to garner relief funds. Billboard Magazine collected a roundup of celebrities' Twitter updates about Japan, with many encouraging the use of texting to donate.

Conan O'Brien, P. Diddy, and Chris Brown also selected the Red Cross when urging their Twitter followers to take action. To make a donation of your own, check out the HuffPost's article on how to help Japan or follow the Impact links below:

Sandra Bullock straight up donated 1 million of her own dollars. Where's eminem and friends? Don't they support causes? Too selfish?

i like the idea of helping japan, but it always amazes me that super wealthy people want to sell some item to encourage others (translate to us poor folk) to donate. I'm sure they're giving large sums as well, but i wish that was listed along with their request for us to donate.

After reading the whole 50cent twitter joke story I was utterly filled with disgust as a whole for celebrities but after seeing this I feel thankful there is a least some celebs helping out people in need.

Japanese Pop star Gackt has also launched a campaign called "Show Your Heart" http://www.tokyohive.com/2011/03/gackt-organizes-charity-show-your-heart-for-the-earthquake/

Working to eliminate all nuclear power plants on earth is the most meaningful way to respond to the Japanese nuclear emergency. For a couple of decades or more, anti-nuclear-power activists have predicted the kind of catastrophe Japan has unleashed on the world with its nuclear power plants. And on the California coast, there are three nuclear power plants near earthquake faults. There is a nuclear plant on New York's Hudson River, too. Chernobyl and 3 Mile Island remind us that nuclear power plants built away from earthquake faults can also murder. Why are we so greedy for power that we are willing to pay with needlessly lost lives now and in the future?

I live about 100 miles from the nuclear reactors that have been exploding for the past several days. My wife and I are very thankful to be alive, so complaining about minor inconveniences like aftershocks seems petty. Still, though the area we live in has not been directly affected, nearly all the petrol stations are closed, the food shelves on the stores are emptying, and things like heating oil and fresh water are increasingly in short supply. I do not care who the message is from. If celebrities can do the job that the mass media used to do of informing people of things, then they should. If ANY celebrity brings attention to this ongoing disaster in Japan, that person can count me as a fan. I have never heard a Lady Gaga song before, but as of today I am a fan. I don’t care who it is. If Charlie Sheen pledges a million because of this, I will get a big, visible “WINNING†tattoo on my forearm and will become a wizard or whatever (I’ll provide whatever proof needed). There ain’t no more Walter Cronkite, so let’s let the people with voices use them!

When Hollywoods elitists can spend millions on a dress that will be worn once, has to make you wonder what planet these people come from. With all that's going on around them, the attack on unions and the middle class being their largest supporters they'll be receiving their pink slips in due time.

Where is their support for their neighbors in Wisconsin. I see the stars of Hollywood loseing their fan base for their no show when their support at home would be greatly appreciated.

clueless!
Japan is an international DISASTER. That's a far cry from a petty governor in Wisconsin abusing the union workers. Japan is undergoing an enormous catastrophe.
